A complete performance to earn their second road win of the season
Montreal, QC- A strong performance from the start to the end as the New York Red Bulls traveled to Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to face CF Montreal for an important match to keep themselves ahead of the playoff line. After the full 90 minutes ended, it was the Red Bulls who secured the full three points to earn the final score of two goals to nil.

Tim Parker uses his head
Emil Forsberg was at the far corner to deliver the ball inside the Montreal area. Kyle Duncan flicked the ball toward the back post, and running free was Tim Parker as he headed the ball inside the net. There was a question of a possible foul by Wiki Carmona as he shoved down Efrain Morales, but Montreal’s Victor Loturi shoved Carmona into his teammate, and the check was complete in the 23rd minute.
“Obviously, I’m just really happy to get the three points and be able to play a little bit of a part in the score sheet. It’s a little bit extra, a little bit of cherry on top. On our play? I think a little bit of a bend or break mentality, you know, I think Montreal had some good attacking sequences, but for us, it was important to, like I said, bend or break. Getting in those two goals in the first half and then being able to defend in the second half and still creating some opportunities on the attacking side was good. And then, yeah, I mean, whenever you’re able to go on the road and win and get a shutout, that’s a really good result.” Said Tim Parker

Choupo-Moting back on the scoresheet
Marcelo Morales threw the ball back into play, toward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Efrain Morales tried to knock the ball away, but Choupo spun away to retrieve the ball for an attack. Choupo-Moting got inside the area, then slotted the ball underneath the goalkeeper in the 29th minute for the two goal lead.
Coronel earns the clean sheet
All match long, Carlos Coronel had a spectacular match, making some big saves and keeping the clean sheet intact. He made several diving saves to push the ball away from his net, but got a bit of luck on a free kick when the ball struck the inside of the near post and redirected right into his hands as he pulled off a magic trick.
“We talked a lot during the week about our situation right now, and especially after the Portland game, how we lost and Tim Parker said some words before we went out to the game. The performance was really good, very, very intensive, very aggressive. It’s not so easy, and this is what we expect also before the game, it’s not so easy to play here against their style of play and their defensive behavior. And we did it very well, but Montreal had also some chances not to forget but how we defend our box to block the shots, that was very, very important. And we scored after set pieces. So most important thing to get these three points on the road. And we made it, and now we have to look forward for the next game.”
The Red Bulls have three matches remaining, with the next two at home for the Hudson River Derby and FC Cincinnati coming in, before the October International Break comes in. These are huge games and huge points on the line for the Red Bulls to remain in the hunt.
