The final minute of extra time puts the Capital of Texas club into the Open Cup Final
St. Paul, MN- This was the match that everyone was waiting to see. Who would be hosting the 2025 U.S. Open Cup Final, as the spotlight was at Allianz Field to see Minnesota United FC hosting Austin FC. After ending this match in 120 minutes, it would be the road side that stole the victory away from going to penalty kicks, as Austin got the win. The final score was two goals to one.
Squeezing in one late in the first half
The first half looked set to end scoreless, but Austin FC found a way to get the opening goal of the match. A long ball was crossed into the path of Osman Bukari, and he got inside the area. Slid into the ball, and barely just got through Dayne St. Claire just past three minutes of first half stoppage time.
Golazo from Pereyea
Minnesota United FC earned a free kick at the far side of the pitch and six yards away from the area. Joaquin Pereyea took his chance by bending the ball around the Austin wall, scoring in the 67th minute.
Last minute winner in Extra Time
Austin FC found a way to retake the lead. Jon Gallagher at the far side crosses the ball toward Myrto Uzuni inside the area. St. Claire stopped his shot, but C.J. Fodrey got the rebound and scored in the 120th minute and celebrated at the far side touchline.
Third Texas Team in the Open Cup Final
FC Dallas reached the Open Cup Finals three times. Winning in 1997, 2016, but lost in 2005. The Houston Dynamo reached the Open Cup Finals in 2018 and also recently in the 2023 edition, at Inter Miami, without Lionel Messi. Can Austin FC complete the trifecta?
The 2025 U.S. Open Cup Final will have Austin FC hosting Nashville SC at the Q2 Stadium at 7:30 PM Eastern – 6:30 PM Central as it will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network & streaming on Paramount+
