A Hat Trick by Sam Surridge takes down The Union all by himself.
Nashville, TN- Nashville SC hosted the Philadelphia Union at Geodis Park, got a hat trick from Sam Surridge, and held off a late surge from the Union as they took the win and advanced to the US Open Cup Finals by a final score of three goals to one.
Sam Surridge Hat Trick
The first goal came off a throw-in from the far side. Jelsson Palacios snapped his head back to put a fantastic ball toward Surridge, who was all alone. The ball bounced his way, and he delivered a header shot inside the near post in the 36th minute.
His second goal was off a free kick at the near corner. After the ball was delivered, it was deflected out toward Jacob Schaffelburg, who took a shot that was stopped by Andrew Rick, but left the ball in the air. Surridge headed it into the net for his second of the match in the 50th minute.
His Hat Trick was a thing of beauty, as a long ball was delivered into the path of Surridge. Getting inside the Union area, Surridge lifted his right boot. Scored a chip shot inside the far post to end the match with a two goal lead in the 85th minute.
Quinn Sullivan Golazo
The lone goal of the night for the Union was an individual effort from Quinn Sullivan. He received the ball at the near side, started to go across the outside of the area. What some thought he was looking to pass the ball, he took the shot himself and destroyed the upper far 90 in the 70th minute.
The Union wasn’t running on all cylinders
It was a long flight from Vancouver, British Columbia, after taking a seven goal clean sheet beating from the Whitecaps. For an entire half of Open Cup Soccer, The Union registered no shots and no shots on target. The first shot of the match was after the second goal by Surridge. While they finally got back into the match, it was too little too late.
Nashville will now wait for the winner this coming Wednesday night as Minnesota United FC will host Austin FC at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota, at 8:30 PM EDT – 7:30 PM CDT on CBSD Sports Network and streaming on Paramount+.
