Special themed nights to honor the club’s special moments and special players
New York, NY- The New York Rangers announced eight special dates to commemorate their 100th season as a National Hockey League Franchise. Recently retired Rangers TV Broadcaster Sam Rosen will perform some of these nights as Master of Ceremonies, as well as honoring the different eras of New York Rangers hockey.
Birth of a Franchise
Monday, October 20th, the Rangers host the Minnesota Wild, honoring their early years from 1926 through 1942, when they achieved early success, winning three Stanley Cups in the 1927-28, 1932-33, and 1939-40 seasons. The Rangers were known as the Classiest Team in Hockey.
Milestones And Moments
Saturday, November 8th, the Rangers host their local rivals, the New York Islanders, shaping Rangers history. Remembering playoff overtime goals to record-setting games, recognizing unforgettable moments that have taken place throughout the Rangers’ history.
Original Six Era
Sunday, November 16th, the Rangers host the Detroit Red Wings, honoring the Original Six era from 1942 through 1967. Commemorating the players who built the Rangers’ status as a true New York team and the homegrown legends who starred for the team during those years. Detroit is also celebrating 100 years.
The New Garden
Saturday, December 13th, the Rangers host the Montreal Canadiens, honoring their move from their original location at 8th Avenue between West 49th & 50th streets to the current location between 7th & 8th Avenues. and West 31st & 33rd Streets. Honoring the 1967-1991 eras. Recognizing the rebirth that took place during this period, including a new home arena and bringing Rangers hockey to more fans than ever through television.
Forever Faithful Fan Favorites
Thursday, January 8th, the Rangers host the Buffalo Sabres, honoring and highlighting players who have earned the love and admiration of ‘The Garden Faithful’ through their hard work and all-out effort.
Legendary Blueshirts
Monday, January 26th, the Rangers host the Boston Bruins, honoring the eras of 1991 through 2004. Honoring some of the best to ever play the game, some of the best individual seasons and team accomplishments in franchise history. Including their Stanley Cup Championship in 1994.
Goaltenders: A Century of Saves
Thursday, February 5th, the Rangers host the Carolina Hurricanes, celebrating some of the best goaltending talents throughout 100 years of Rangers hockey. From Gump Worsley, Dave Kerr, Eddie Giacomin, Bob Frose, John Vanbiesbrouck, Mike Richter, Mike Dunham, Kevin Weekes, Henrik Lundqvist, and the current goaltender for the Rangers, Igor Shesterkin.
Modern Era
Thursday, March 5th, the Rangers host the Toronto Maple Leafs, honoring 2004 through the modern day as the Broadway Blueshirts will battle to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Celebrating a new era of Rangers hockey, highlighted by 15 postseason appearances and the creation of new team traditions.
Expect former players like Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Adam Graves, Vic Hadfield, Jean Ratelle, Brad Park, Ron Greshner, and many other former Rangers greats who have worn the jersey that represents the hockey team, New York City, and the fans. These are the moments that all Rangers fans will enjoy as the team celebrates 100 years of magical moments.
