As the New York Jets prepare for their final week of training camp and get ready to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles in their final preseason game at MetLife Stadium, there is alot of work this team needs to do and prepare for their final cuts to trim the roster down to the 53 man limit, and also bring back some of these players for selection to the practice squad.
Kris Boyd on Injured Reserve
Defensive Back Kris Boyd, who suffered a shoulder injury on August 2nd during the Green and white practice, has officially been placed on Injured Reserve. Boyd, who has been a core special teams player for most of his career, signed with the Jets in March. The seventh-year player appeared in all 17 games for the Texans last season. He took 365 snaps on special teams, the second most on the team, and 48 snaps on defense.
Originally drafted by the Vikings in the seventh round out of Texas in 2019, Boyd played four seasons with Minnesota and totaled 95 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 3 pass defenses on defense over 636 snaps. He led the team in special teams snaps with 302 during the 2019 season as a rookie and 403 in the ’22 season.
Aaron Glenn Throwing Curve Balls at Everyone
After their performance against the Giants in the second preseason game, Aaron Glenn decided to go against the grain and threw out some situations, even though the coaching staff didn’t know what would be called. He felt he had to keep everyone on their toes. He called for a situation on 3rd and 15 to set up a field goal.
Had a few red zone moments and other plays, but he felt that things were getting better. But he knows they have a long way to go before this team starts the regular season in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers of the brand new season.
“We worked on several situations, some situations, and some situations where the coordinators didn’t know what I was going to do, and threw some situations with them. Red Zone, a situation where we called it hurricane, with 3 & 15 on the 37. The Quarterback needs to know I don’t need 15, I just need a better position to kick a field goal. We did that for 20 seconds, and we did that. The field goal runs on the field, and we did that. Just a number of situations that we needed to, and we were able to do well. But we got to keep chopping wood, and we need to improve.” said Aaron Glenn
Some Starters won’t play against the Eagles
Aaron Glenn won’t put some of his starters into the final preseason game against the Eagles, and rightfully so. Glenn is looking for those players who can come in, steal a spot, and try to force themselves into the 53-man roster, or might have that second chance to fill one of those precious practice squad positions to be with the team.
“I won’t get into the who’s or whatnots, but a good amount of starters won’t play. That gives us a chance to take a look at some of our young guys and give them plenty of playing time to evaluate them. It’s getting down to cut down time to see who can make the 53., It’s important to go out there and see how they operate and give them a chance.” said Glenn.
Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams Return to Practice
It was such a positive to see Edge rusher Jermaine Johnson and Defensive Lineman Quinnen Williams return to practice as they tore it up on the practice field. Much so at the surprise of the level of speed that both men possessed, going after the quarterback. It brought a smile and a slight amazement to Glenn’s head as he knew the defense needed these two men back from their respective injuries.
“All I can say is WOAH! I mean, #11 is out there and he’s rushing the passer, and he runs right by me, and I felt wind like WOOSH! he just goes by me, and then you see #95. It felt good, felt really good.” said Glenn
Jets Fans Surprise Breece & Garrett
After practice, the Jets players went to the stands to sign autographs for the fans who attended, but what a few did out of nowhere was get the high school jerseys of Breece Hall & Garrett Wilson as they were shocked to see these fans hand them the jerseys they used to wear and autograph them. A very cool moment for those two players for the Jets.
