The New York Jets are back at Florham Park to restart training camp after a successful first preseason road win at the Green Bay Packers at historic Lambeau Field. From the starters to the backups, the third and fourth stringers, this Jets team looked solid and hungry to attack the Packers, and is ready for a new era. But now a new challenge is coming for them, and that is their neighbors in the New York Giants
The Giants had their own disastrous season last year and are coming into this joint practice session with purpose before facing the Jets in the Snoopy Bowl at MetLife Stadium this coming Saturday night. There were tons of battles on both sides of the line of scrimmage, and it will always be fun when the annual preseason matchup comes into play.
Injuries and done for the Preseason
For those who saw in the first preseason game, no Tyrod Taylor as he was out with a knee injury. He got it scoped, and he will miss the rest of the preseason, but hopefully be ready to go for Week 1 of the new season. During the game, Allen Lazard had an injury and left Lambeau Field with a sling as he developed a shoulder problem. Aaron Glenn addressed it at the press conference today.
The Giants Are a True Test in the Joint Practice
There was a lot of great work from both teams. There were some moments on the offense for the Jets; they were winning plays, but the Giants’ defense won some plays, stopping the offense. Without a doubt, these are the type of scrimmages you need to test your team before going out on the field and find out what you can do.
“I really like having these joint practices, because it breaks up the monotony of going against each other on a daily basis, and going against a pretty good team that is very talented. They have some guys who are out and not facing them to challenge against them. Including their wide receivers against our Defensive Backs, this is a very talented team,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn, “I was mostly with the offense today, and they had an up and down day.
“I thought we had an up and down day. There were some things we did very well, and there were some things we didn’t do well, and that’s a part of practice, going against a very good team and a very good front. I’ll look at the tape to see what we can work on, but what I can say is that there was a lot of improvement from both sides.”
Mason Taylor Returns to Practice
2025 NFL Draft Second Round Pick Tight End Mason Taylor returned to practice, coming back from a high ankle sprain, and he once again looked strong in practice in the passing game. Made plays, secured the ball, and put himself into position for positive yards every time his number was called.
“I tell you what, I don’t know if you saw the seven route that he caught. It was outstanding the way he was able to reach, maneuver his feet, to stay in bounds on that play. The things I expect from him in the passing game, there’s nothing new for that player. The thing is, he needs to come at the right pace, so we don’t have him reinjure that ankle again,” said Glenn.
Jermaine Johnson Wants to Let it Go
Since reporting that Jermaine Johnson was activated off the PUP list, it feels like the front seven of the Jets is getting healthier by the day. Of course, Johnson wants to get out there and start making plays to help his side improve for the start of the regular season, but the coaching staff is taking it slow with him, and when they believe he can let it loose, then he should be back to his old self again.
After finishing off the Packers, the Jets are now concentrating on the Giants during joint practices, and they hope to get better and make improvements before this coming Saturday night’s second preseason game at the Snoopy Bowl in MetLife Stadium.
