As the Snoopy Bowl is inching closer for this coming weekend, the New York Jets, who were the hosts yesterday at Florham Park, drove down Route 3 to East Rutherford, as the Giants’ Practice Facility is within the confines of the Meadowlands Sports & Entertainment Complex. It was an active day for both teams, and while the Giants had some strong moments, the Jets had some as well.
This was the type of practice that Head Coach Aaron Glenn was very proud of watching and enjoyed seeing his team fight back toward the end of the session. “This was an outstanding practice for a number of reasons, and I am so happy how the offense came back and responded from some of the things I thought we weren’t as good at yesterday,” HC Aaron Glenn told reporters. “Our offense came out and responded, and that was from the very beginning. I could just tell during the warm-up that they were ready to g,o and that’s what I expect out of our team when they’re challenged, when things don’t go right, when things don’t go how we expect them to go. For them to come back and respond the way they did, I thought that was growth on a number of levels for us.”
Sauce Gardner Held Out due to Soreness
Fourth-year cornerback Sauce Garden had some calf soreness at today’s session, which allowed Glenn to keep him off the practice field today. He went to get some tests done, and we will see if he will be ready for this Saturday’s Game at MetLife Stadium.
Nick Folk Converts All Kicks
Veteran Place Kicker Nick Folk went out to the practice field to attempt field goals, and he converted all six kicks. Two of his six kicks were from 50 yards or more. While Harrison Mevis had some solid field goals in the preseason game against the Packers, it feels like the old veteran might edge him out for the job. There is still plenty of time to see how this kicking battle in camp will proceed.
Brandon Smith Excelling
Wide Receiver Brandon Smith had a solid day at the joint practice with the Giants. Adrian Martinez was the quarterback in this session, as Smith was able to haul in a nice catch for a first down. The 6′-1″ lanky wideout executed a nice reach for the ball, secured it, and got both feet down. Then, during a two-minute drill, he secured another grab.
“That’s one guy I probably haven’t talked about enough,” Glenn said of Smith. “But I like where he’s at, and he’s steadily improving on a daily basis. It’s good when your younger guys are showing up because it pushes the older guys. They got to get going because this is going to be a team of the best guys are going to be here, and the guys that fit us.”
Two days of joint practices between the two New York NFL Teams, and so far it’s been very encouraging to see these two sides going after each other, but we all hope they save it for the game on Saturday. But right now, it’s been pleasant to see, and for the Jets, they look like they are gelling like a team. We will see what happens.
