The New York Knicks got ready to face their in-city rivals at Madison Square Garden as they hosted the Brooklyn Nets. While this Nets team hasn’t done well record-wise, their scrappy play has been a concern as they continue to try to improve their play. But the defending NBA Champions and Emirates NBA Cup champions were trying to get back to their old form from last season. After a hard-fought three quarters, the Knicks found a way to separate themselves and got the job done, defeating the Nets by the final score of 103-90.
The Game started well as both sides were battling it out, keeping each other close in the lead. Even though the Knicks did try to get some separation from the Nets, they continued to catch up and battle till the fourth quarter came, and that gave the Knicks the lead. Once they got on a run, the Knicks were able to finally get over ten points, and the final buzzer sounded to give them the win. Landry Shamet led all scorers coming off the bench with 22 points and was 4-for-6 from behind the three-point line. Jalen Brunson was second on the Knicks with 19 Points, and Karl Anthony Towns had another double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Julius Randle led all Nets players with 21 Points and had a double-double with 11 rebounds
First Half: The Nets got off to a good start, but the Knicks started to go ahead
The Knicks and the Nets got off to a strong start as both sides were changing who had the lead. Julius Randle was active around the hoop and inside the paint. Putting in layups and short jumpers. Brunson started to hit some three-pointers early. Josh Hart, who started slow, was also finally getting into the game. While the Knicks did have the lead, it wasn’t a safe lead early on. The Nets continued to be a pest as they scored several baskets and a lot of threes.
Second Half: The Nets continued to pester, but the Knicks finally broke away
The beginning of the third quarter was the same as the first half. The Nets continued to work while the Knicks were trying to take a big lead. While they did have a nine-point lead and stretched it out to 11, the Nets continued to chip away and caught up to the Knicks. They did take a five-point lead until the fourth quarter came, and that’s when they finally broke away. Landry Shamet led the charge with multiple three-pointers, along with Hart and Towns crashing the boards. Jordan Clarkson also had some solid buckets to keep the lead until the final buzzer sounded.
