Red Bull New York, coming off a masterpiece performance against Inter Miami at Sports Illustrated Stadium, will now head north into the New England Region and face the Revolution, who have been one of the better clubs in the Eastern Conference. This will be a difficult match, as Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, has always been a house of horrors for the Red Bulls, and getting a positive result again will be on the line as they hold on to their playoff spot in the Wild Card round.
Gillette Stadium has always been a daunting away ground
Since the Revolution and the Red Bulls (Formerly the MetroStars) began when the league began in 1996, that area has always been a difficult place to play for the club. Either at the former Foxboro Stadium or at Gillette Stadium, the home of both the Revolution and the New England Patriots of the NFL, it continues to be a house of horrors, and we have seen silly moments happen, with bad calls and strange injuries. The last great result was a win about four years ago when an own goal was scored by the Revs, and that gave the Red Bulls the full three points. But under Marko Mitrovic, the Revolution has been very difficult to play against. This will be a daunting task for this young Red Bulls side.
“I think the starting point is everyone’s going to have a good team, and they traditionally have had good teams, and so going there is never easy. But at this time of the year, we’re excited by the part of playing big games with a lot on the line, as we always do. We’ll look at New England closely and understand the things that make them a good team. But we will be ready to try to do everything possible to put the game on our terms and push things and to really, on a big night, be ready to push and be the team that is going after in every way,” said Michael Bradley
The challenges of facing the Revolution
Carles Gil continues to be the driving force in the midfield and dictates what the Revolution does against their opponents. He currently leads the Revs with 13 goals, while Israeli international striker Dov Turgeman is second with 10 goals. Since the home opener at Sports Illustrated Stadium, the Revolution fell late by a goal to nil. Since the early games of the season, the Revolution have been in the top half of the Eastern Conference and are currently tied for second with Inter Miami. The players will need to play against the Revolution, just as they played against Inter Miami. A hard press and forcing turnovers to go on attacking runs.

Looking back at the win over Inter Miami
In the last match against Inter Miami, the Red Bulls finally earned their first win against the club with Lionel Messi on the pitch, but he was subbed in in the 57th minute after returning from Spain, earning an award. Creating unforced errors, stealing the ball, and making attacking runs to threaten their net. While they only scored two goals, they played in-your-face tactics, and they harassed Inter Miami with and without Messi on the pitch. They must continue this type of match when they face the Revolution.
“Yeah, it was really a fun game to play for all of us. You know, obviously, like those are the games that you want to play. You know, all the atmosphere is great. All the fans are there screaming. Obviously, it could be for [Lionel] Messi or someone else, but you know, we love to see an atmosphere like that, and it was just a really fun game. It was a must-win for us. So happy to take all three points and keep the playoff hopes alive,” said Cade Cowell
Having Adri Mehmeti and Julian Hall as Teammates
Since the start of the season, we have been wowed and dazzled by the play of both these young and talented players, midfielder Adri Mehmeti and Striker Julian Hall. What these players have done at the club level and now on the international level has been incredible. In the last match against Inter Miami, you saw how much Mehmeti unlocked their opponents and sent through balls towards attacking runs. He set up his front three in Cowell, Hall, and Jorge Ruvalcaba. Hall has done a good job scoring goals in the first half of the season, but he did have a goal-less streak to restart the season after the World Cup, and he also made history with the U.S. Men’s National Team by scoring a goal in his first three matches. You wonder what it’s like for Cowell to have these young guns as his teammates.
“I think I’ll talk more like off the field. You know, I think that’s what amazes me more is, you know, they have so many, you could say, distractions in their life right now. Good distractions, but you know they could easily, for how young they are, get ahead of themselves or take their foot off the gas for a little, but they really don’t. They stay the same. Very humble kids. You know, always smiling, always joking around. So, I think that’s really impressive to me because I feel like that shows on the field. When you have that level head and don’t get ahead of yourself, you can go really far,” said Cade Cowell
This is a big game for the Red Bulls as they need to get the full three points and remain in the Wild Card position with two matches remaining.
