New England Revolution’s midfield maestro added to 2025 MLS All-Star roster, cementing his status among club legends
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution captain Carles Gil has been selected for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game, earning his fourth career All-Star nod and further solidifying his place in franchise history. The Spanish midfielder was added to the roster by MLS All-Star Head Coach Nico Estévez on Tuesday, recognizing his outstanding contributions during the 2025 campaign.
Leading by Example
Gil’s selection comes as no surprise to those following the Revolution’s season. Through 21 matches, the 32-year-old has been the driving force behind New England’s attack, leading the team with 8 goals and 7 assists for a total of 15 goal contributions. His four game-winning tallies have proven crucial in tight contests, while his six MLS Team of the Matchday selections underscore his consistent excellence.
“Carles continues to demonstrate why he’s one of the premier playmakers in Major League Soccer,” said Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter. “His leadership on and off the field, combined with his technical ability and vision, make him an invaluable asset to our team and a deserving All-Star selection.”
Historic Achievement
This marks Gil’s fourth MLS All-Star appearance in the last five seasons, tying him with goalkeeper Matt Reis for the third-most selections in Revolution history. Only club legends Shalrie Joseph (8) and Taylor Twellman (5) have earned more All-Star nods while wearing the Revolution crest.
The accolade adds to an already impressive resume that includes two MLS Best XI selections, the 2021 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award, four Revolution Team MVP Awards, and both MLS Newcomer of the Year (2019) and MLS Comeback Player of the Year (2021) honors.
Record-Breaking Performance
Gil’s impact extends beyond individual accolades. Earlier this season, he became the Revolution’s all-time leader in MLS assists with 80, surpassing a record that had stood for years. His 47 regular season goals rank fourth in club history, and with just three more goal contributions, he’ll surpass Taylor Twellman’s franchise record of 129.
Perhaps most impressively, Gil leads all MLS players with 85 assists since the start of 2019 when including playoff matches – a testament to his sustained excellence and creative vision over multiple seasons.
All-Star Showcase
The 2025 MLS All-Star Game and Skills Challenge, presented by AT&T, will take place at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. The event will be broadcast globally in over 100 countries and regions in English, Spanish, and French on MLS Season Pass via the Apple TV app, showcasing the league’s top talent to an international audience.
Looking Ahead
While Gil prepares for his All-Star duties, the Revolution continue their regular season campaign with two crucial matches this week. New England faces the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET) before returning home to host Orlando City SC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, July 19 (7:30 p.m. ET).
Both matches will be available on MLS Season Pass and broadcast locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Spanish coverage on Más Latino 99.9 FM & 1300 AM and Portuguese commentary on 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
As the Revolution push toward the playoffs, Gil’s leadership and playmaking ability will be essential to their success. His All-Star selection serves as recognition not just of his individual brilliance, but of his role in elevating the entire team’s performance throughout the 2025 season.
