Murray Ruled Out After Concussion Setback
The Vikings will open Week 2 with a different quarterback under center. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell announced Friday that Carson Wentz will start Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Chicago Bears, with Kyler Murray officially ruled out as he continues through the league’s concussion protocol.
Murray attended meetings throughout the week and logged limited practices, but Minnesota shut him down after evaluating his progress Friday.
Wentz Steps In After Strong Relief Performance
Wentz took over early in the opener against Green Bay and delivered one of the cleanest relief performances of his career. He finished 12‑of‑19 for 133 yards and three touchdowns, posting a 123.5 passer rating and guiding the Vikings to a second‑half comeback despite having taken almost no first‑team reps during camp.
“You never feel like the moment is too big for Carson,” O’Connell said. “That’s his experience. That’s who he is. Nobody in our building expected anything different.”
Sunday will mark the 100th start of Wentz’s NFL career and his sixth as a Viking.
A Veteran Presence in a Divisional Road Test
Wentz started five games for Minnesota last season after signing late in the year, throwing for 1,216 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. His familiarity with O’Connell’s offense—and his ability to stabilize the huddle—gives the Vikings a veteran anchor as they head into Soldier Field.
Chicago’s defense has leaned heavily on pressure early in the season, and Minnesota is betting on a quarterback who’s seen every disguise, every blitz look, and every momentum swing the league can throw at him.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Soldier Field.
