Red Bulls Ready for Mid-Week Action against Nashville SC

By Daniel Feuerstein | Morris Township, NJ | August 18th, 2026

After a poor 22 minutes in the second half of their road game at the bottom of the Eastern Conference against Atlanta United, Red Bull New York came back to start a three-match home stint against their next opponent in the top of the East as they will host Nashville SC in midweek. The club must get that nasty taste out of their mouth and refocus for a Nashville side that took care of business against Inter Miami at Geodis Park, but this match will be held at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

This is a huge stretch of games at home

For two weeks, the Red Bulls will play three matches. All three opponents are showing how difficult they can be, with strong coaching. Nashville has B.J. Callaghan in their technical area, as he has led his side to the U.S. Open Cup Championship. Then the Chicago Fire come over on the weekend with Robert Lewandowski, and then the resurging Philadelphia Union the following Saturday. Michael Bradley knows he has a tall task ahead of him, and all three opponents won’t be easy. Still, he needs to use his roster smartly and find that key cog to get his players into a position to earn the full three points.

“It’s an important stretch for sure. It’s a competitive week always, but in some ways maybe even more so this year. we continue to feel good about a lot of the direction that a lot of things are going even in atlanta on saturday night it’s a really frustrating one because generally we play quite well when we do a lot of the things that we would want to do and need to do well, we do them, we handle them in a good way, and we go after the game, and we’re in control of a lot of the game.

In the end, we can’t quite find the right way to get the second goal. We have some really good advantages and some attacking moments where, if we can be a little bit better, a little bit sharper, a little bit more concrete, then we can get the second goal and put the game out of reach. When you leave it open, then you always leave open the fact that a team can hit a shot or get a set piece and find their way back in the game. And so we looked at some of that today and still reminded the group that generally our ideas, our package of football, the way that we go about trying to put games on our terms, a lot of those things are really positive. And now we’ve got to just be a little bit better, a little bit sharper, and more to reward ourselves so that now we can increase the margins a little bit,” said Michael Bradley

Going after Nashville

Without a doubt, Nashville SC has been a fantastic side for the last two seasons, including this season. Their movement and how they attack the opposition, either in league play or in other competitions, makes them a strong side to play against. Since B.J. Callaghan came to the club, the gold and dark blue of Music City has truly been a dangerous side for every 90 minutes they play. Either at home or on the road, this team has become difficult in every facet of the game.

“Nashville is a really good team, obviously. By a lot of standards, you would say they’ve been the best team in the league so far this year, and so we’re excited for the opportunity to test ourselves against them. Obviously, Miami is another really good team that put a lot into it and really made the game hard for them. I think Nashville’s football ideas, in terms of having guys in the center of the field, in between the lines, the understanding between their attacking players of how to be fluid and how to balance who wants the ball to their feet and who’s running deep, and then how that gets complemented by fullbacks moving into the attack.

I think that part is all pretty interesting, and so we’re gonna continue to look really closely at them, make sure that our players are prepared in the best possible way, and be ready as always when the whistle blows to go after them and to go after the game in a in a really a really strong, aggressive way,” said Michael Bradley

The players know they have to be better with goal scoring

There’s no doubt the Red Bull players are well aware that their lack of goal-scoring has been horrible. In these past four matches, they have scored five goals while their opponents have scored nine. Since their return from the World Cup break, they have had one win and three losses, one of which was a clean sheet against them by Charlotte FC. While they have been doing well bringing up the ball and setting up their chances, pulling the trigger and hitting the target has been their weakness so far. They know what’s going on, and the players are doing everything they can to correct it. They also know Nashville will be a huge challenge this next match.

“They’re leading the Shield race, coming off a run of perhaps not so strong results. What does it mean to be taking on this team at home, and what do you think you can bring? As you said, we know where Nashville is on the table. They’re a good team. First place, of course. And what we have to do is score more goals. That’s the way we have to go about it. Because, if you look at the previous games, Atlanta, Charlotte, we’re doing the right things. We’re getting in and around the box. But it’s just the final product at the end of the day. And if we score more goals, goals kill games. So that’s what we’re going to look to do and hopefully get a positive result and then continue from there,” said Adri Mehmeti

Without a doubt, this will be a very difficult match for the Red Bulls. Nashville is firing on all cylinders, and they won’t stop till they get another piece of silverware for their cabinet. For the club, the plan is very simple. Score more than one goal and defend well to keep the ball out of their net. They haven’t earned a clean sheet since the home opener back in early March at Sports Illustrated Stadium against the New England Revolution. It’s time to get back on track and hope they can get a good result against the best of the East.
