Red Bull New York Signs Ronald Donkor to an Extension

Red Bull New York Director of Sport Julian deGuzman has signed Ghanaian Midfielder Ronald Donkor to an extension for a new three-and-a-half-year deal that will end during the 2029-30 MLS Season, with an option for the 2030-31 season that will begin this coming January 1st, 2027. Since becoming more of an attacking midfielder under Head Coach Michael Bradley, Donkor has improved in his offensive capabilities in fourteen matches, converting a goal and four assists in the 2026 season. He has taken his new role in a very positive manner.

“Ronnie has developed into a really important member of our club, and we are very excited to keep him with the club for the long-term,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “He is a very hard worker who gives his all for our club, and we are looking forward to seeing him continue to succeed here.”

In 54 career matches, Ronald Donkor has totaled a goal and eight assists since his transfer from Guidars FC in Mali on May 3rd, 2023. He was used primarily for his defensive skill set when he was partnered with former Red Bull New York defensive midfielder Daniel Edelman. Now, under Bradley, he has been given the freedom to move up into attacking runs and contribute to goal scoring, and he scored his first career MLS goal against D.C. United back on Wednesday, April 22nd, of this season. He was also a part of the club during their run to the MLS Cup Championship in 2024 and helped win the Eastern Conference Championship.

“Ronnie has been an integral part of our team this season, and he has a very bright future ahead of him,” said Head Coach Michael Bradley. “We are excited to see Ronnie continue to develop and to continue to represent our club on and off the pitch.”

Now on their World Cup break, the Red Bulls will return in late July to resume the second half of the season, going on the road to face the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park on Wednesday, July 22nd. at 7:30 PM EDT on Apple TV.

Red Bull New York has re-signed Ghanaian Midfielder Ronald Donkor to a brand new contract to remain with the club with an option year that will begin in the new year of 2027.
