A hard defensive match where chances were taken, as Turkiye hosted Romania in their Pathway C matchup. They hope to make it to Group D, where they will face Australia, Paraguay, and the tri-host USA, for this summer’s World Cup. It was a huge sold-out crowd at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul, and after the full 90 minutes came to an end, it would be the Turks who would advance to the final match on Tuesday as they defeated Romania by a final score of a goal to nil.
One goal was all they needed to get into the final match to earn their spot in the World Cup, as Turkiye had possession of the ball. They were hanging around the near side of the pitch and trying to see where they needed to break out and convert a chance. It finally happened when Arda Guler saw the space between the defenders and the Romanian area, and delivered a fantastic ball. That’s when Ferdi Kadioglu made his run, got control of the ball, and slipped it through Andrei Radu to grab the lead and the win in the 53rd minute.
Romania had several great chances to score an equalizer, but they couldn’t beat Ugurcan Cakir or make their shots dangerous at the net. While the Turks kept it close, the final whistle blew, and they knew they had one more chance to clinch that spot in Group D. They will face Kosovo on Tuesday, March 31st, as they recorded a shocking victory over Slovakia with a four goals to three result away from home.
