Vinyl BC became the sixth and final club to clinch a spot in the Unrivaled playoffs Monday night, securing a gritty 75-68 victory over Lunar Owls BC. The win improves Vinyl to 5-8, snapping a mistimed three-game skid at the perfect moment, while the Lunar Owls (3-10) saw their post-season hopes officially extinguished.
Rae Burrell delivered a masterpiece, dropping a career-high 30 points to lead the Vinyl in scoring for the second consecutive outing. Rhyne Howard anchored the defense with 14 points and a career-best four blocks, while the bench duo of Brittney Griner and Erica Wheeler provided the decisive spark, combining for 25 points.

How It Happened
Vinyl entered the night as the masters of their own destiny: win and they’re in.
“I feel like, as a team, we knew what was at stake,” Burrell said of the atmosphere. “We came focused from shootaround to now. I think we all were able to lock in when it mattered most.”
The Lunar Owls didn’t make it easy. Marina Mabrey exploded for 30 points—her fourth such performance of the season—while rookie sensation Aaliyah Edwards dominated the glass with 26 points and 13 rebounds, marking her ninth double-double.
“Aaliyah works really hard,” Mabrey said of her teammate. “She’s putting in the effort to get better every single day. I’m seeing it everywhere—different passes being caught, moves being made. Learning her game has been a highlight of the season.”
The contest began as a heavyweight slugfest. Mabrey scored five early points during a 9-4 Lunar Owls run, but the Vinyl responded through their veterans. Burrell and Griner combined for the team’s first 14 points, edging Vinyl to a 22-21 lead after the first.
The second quarter remained a see-saw affair. Skylar Diggins sparked a late 6-0 burst to keep the Owls within striking distance, but Vinyl retreated to the locker room with a slim 45-44 cushion.
The Closing Act
The second half shifted from an offensive showcase to a defensive grind. Rhyne Howard’s presence in the paint became the story of the third quarter, as her shot-blocking erased three separate Owl attempts at the rim.
While Mabrey cooled slightly under heavy double-teams, Erica Wheeler took over the playmaking duties for Vinyl. Wheeler’s back-to-back triples midway through the fourth pushed the lead to eight, a gap the Lunar Owls could never quite close. A late desperation surge by Edwards was silenced by a Burrell mid-range jumper with 42 seconds remaining, icing the game and the playoff seed.
Up Next
With the win, Vinyl BC secures the No. 6 seed and shifts their focus to the opening round of the Unrivaled Playoffs. The Lunar Owls will look to play spoiler in their season finale as they build toward the 2027 campaign.
