Took the reins and led with a brilliant match
Cortina Bay, ITA- After their lackluster performance against Italy in their last game, the U.S. Women’s curling team got back to the Arena and faced Denmark. The Women refocused their efforts and performed brilliantly, taking advantage of every misplayed stone that Denmark tried to get. They took advantage of poor throws and poor hammers to get a huge win that forced the Danes to concede after eight ends by a final score of ten-to-three.
Overview
It was a point a piece after the first two ends, until the USA got to work on their redemption. Tabitha Peterson threw the hammer and knocked out a Danish stone and scored two points with one already inside the eight-foot. Denmark would pull one back in the fourth end, but in the fifth end, a masterful job from Team USA to get th epoint and outsmart her oppoenets. The Danes had three stones in the top of the four foot, Tabitha Peterson delivered a solid stone and with the fantastic sweeping of Taylor Anderson-Heide & Tara PEterson to make the stone curl and gently got underneath the stones and entered the button from the right side of the house.
Throughout the sixth end, Denmark tried to clear the house two seperate times and failed to do so. But towards the last two stones in the end, Team USA had the button filled with two stones right insdie the middle. Denmark wanted to use the hammer to clear it out. When Madeleine Dupont sent down her final stone, it didn’t have enough speed to go all the way down the sheet and it stopped just short of the button and landed inside the 12-foot for another two points for the USA.
Denmark got a point in the seventh end to make the score six-to-three for the USA, but in the eighth end, with three stones inside the house a simple throw of the hammer again by Tabitha Peterson glides down the sheet and landed inside the eight foot and it was a four point end that forced Denmark to Concede and the match belonged to Team USA. With the victory Team USA are now in second place on the overall table and could play in the Semi-Finals.
Their next match is on Wednesday, February 18th against Great Britain
