Behind early, took the lead from the fourth end and beyond
Cortina Bay, ITA- The U.S. Women’s Curling Team began their quest for a medal as they faced South Korea in their opening match at the Olympic Curling House. After a slow start, the women were able to get themselves going and take charge of the match. There were a few nervy moments late, but they pulled through and defeated South Korea by a final score of eight to four.
Overview
After South Korea took a two-to-nothing lead after the first two ends, A scoreless draw in the third end allowed Team USA to keep the hammer for the fourth end. Tabitha Peterson, on the hammer, was able to throw it down the sheet and clear the Korean’s stones to geta big two points and tie the match at two. After another scoreless draw in the fifth end, the USA started to take control.
In the sixth end, the USA was able to knock out two of the Korean’s stoens inside the four-foot and had an advantage. While their opponents did have the hammer, it didn’t cause enough damage to take the point, as the USA took the three-to-two lead. In the seventh end, the USA had a possible three-pointer, but Korea used their hammer to take away a point, and a five-to-two lead.
The South Korean’s was able to take two points in the eighth end and cut their deficit to one, but in the final two ends. Tight throws from Tabith Peterson somehow went down the middle with the fastball and never touched any guards going in between and smashed the Korean Stones and grabbed a point in the ninth. In the tenth end a bit of a poor throw on their final stone, but South Korea had a poor hammer that did make some contact, but had too much speed and left the house completely.
