Army West Point forward Billy Batten earned Atlantic Hockey America “Freshman of the Week” honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. It’s the first time that Batten has earned the award in his collegiate career.
Batten earned the weekly award following a four-point week against Rochester Institute of Technology.
On Friday night, Batten recorded three assists in a 6-2 victory over the Tigers. Batten would add to his weekend totals when he opened the scoring in a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday night.
Batten’s performance helped the Black Knights earn four of six points against RIT this past weekend. The freshman from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, said that a weekend like this was “really important to just continue to build momentum and grow our game as the playoffs come along.”

With the playoffs right around the corner, Batten says these matchups against Holy Cross, RIT, and Bentley can show that they can play with anyone in Atlantic Hockey America.
“I think leading into the playoffs, we just need to continue to get better,” Batten said. “Continue to show these teams that, despite how we might have started the year, I mean, we’re coming, and we’re ready to. to play. We’ve shown that we can play with anybody and beat anybody. So I think we just have to continue to do that.”
With Army stealing a point on the road against Bentley Tuesday night, the Black Knights have just four games left on their regular-season schedule.
The Black Knights have this weekend off, but will gear up to travel to Colorado Springs to take on their rivals, the Air Force Falcons (14-12-2, 10-9-1). Two points separate the Black Knights from ninth-place Niagara for an all-important home play-in game.
Puck drop at Cadet Field House is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on February 20th and 7 p.m on the 21st.
