Red Bulls are swapping a Midfielder for a defender.
Harrison, NJ- Red Bull New York, during their third stage of its preseason in Frisco, Texas, made a trade with CF Montreal, sending Venezuelan midfielder Wiki Carmona for Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty. Montreal will pay a portion of Marshall-Rutty’s salary, and Red Bull will retain a percentage of sell-on rights for Carmona.
Marshall-Rutty’s career
The 21-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, made six appearances with CF Montreal before going on loan to Charlotte FC, where he played 29 matches across all competitions and earned four assists. He moved to Montreal at the start of the 2024 season and made 10 appearances. He originally began his MLS career with Toronto FC in 2020, playing for four seasons, in 83 matches, scoring a goal and 10 assists.
“We are very pleased to add Jahkeele to our roster and welcome him to the club,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “He is an exciting young player who brings a strong mentality and a willingness to work, and we believe this is a great spot for him to continue developing and taking the next step in his career.”
Wiki Carmona’s career
Carmona spent five seasons with the Red Bulls, making 102 appearances in MLS play, scoring five goals, and earning seven assists. His last goal for the club came in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 U.S. Open Cup at the Philadelphia Union. He was a part of the 2024 season, where the club won the Eastern Conference Final and reached the MLS Cup Final against the Los Angeles Galaxy. He scored three goals and three assists in 24 appearances as well that year.
“We want to thank Wiki for everything he brought to this club, both on and off the field,” said de Guzman. “He represented the club the right way every day, and we want to wish him the best in this next step of his career.”
