WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point rifle dropped its annual Star Match against Navy on Saturday as the Midshipmen posted the top score in both the NCAA format and the five-man Star Match format.
In the NCAA aggregate, Army finished with a 4674 (smallbore 2323, air rifle 2351) while Navy recorded a 4733(smallbore 2354, air rifle 2379). In the five-man Star Match scoring, Army totaled 5839, and Navy finished at 5904.
Despite the result, Army senior captain Chris Jennings delivered the Black Knights’ top performance of the day, placing fourth overall with a 1179-80x aggregate — a score that tied his season best. Jennings also led Army in both disciplines, finishing fourth in smallbore (587) and fourth in air rifle (592).
Freshman Destin Guest also turned in a notable step forward, setting personal bests in both smallbore and air rifle, continuing an upward trend as Army heads into its final GARC match of the season.

Coach’s Corner
“It’s tough to lose any match, but losing to Navy stings a bit more,” head coach Leighton Dempster said. “I’m proud of Chris for stepping up when we needed him, 1179 aggregate ties his season-best, and he led the team in both smallbore and air rifle today. Destin continues to improve with another set of personal bests in air rifle and aggregate score. What got us today was rough kneeling and, air rifle. Headed into our last GARC match of the season, we will focus on pressure training and specifically air rifle development.”
