The 25-man roster was announced Friday Morning
New York, NY- On Friday morning, January 2nd, USA Hockey General Manager Bill Guerin and Head Coach Mike Sullivan announced the official roster for the 2026 USA Hockey Men’s Olympic Team, and Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils was on NBC’s Today show to chat with the hosts and discuss how important the Olympics are since the move Miracle came out about the 1980 Men’s Olympic Hockey Team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY.
Slight changes from last year’s tournament roster
Guerin has called in several new players while omitting a few. While Jake Anderson was an alternate and came in for an injury during the Four Nations faceoff last winter, he has now been selected for this current roster for the Olympics. Tage Thompson, who was part of the USA World Championship-winning side with the game-winning goal against Switzerland, will be on this roster as well.
The two players who have been left off the roster are Anaheim Ducks forward Chris Kreider and New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox. Some on social media would like to make everyone think the game-winning goal scored by Connor McDavid in overtime during the Four Nations Faceoff Final was Fox’s fault, but that wasn’t his man to defend. Guerin has also said during the Zoom press conference that one play didn’t mean Fox wouldn’t be on this Olympic roster.
Group Play
The USA Men’s Hockey Team has been drawn to play in Group C. Their opponents will be Germany, Latvia, and Denmark. The first game will be on February 12th against Latvia, as the games will be in the new Olympic Hockey Arena in Milan.

“First of all, I mean, I like the way we play. Everybody was together. Everybody played the right way. Adhered to the… You know, the game plan that Mike and his coaching staff brought to the table. Uh, but I think the biggest thing for me was the chemistry. And I think the chemistry allowed the guys to play the way that they did. You know, the willingness to accept their role, the willingness to do things that. You know, maybe on their NHL team, they’re not asked to do. Uh, take a little bit less ice time, play a different role— all those things went into it, but the chemistry, I think, was one of the biggest things,” said General Manager of USA Hockey Bill Guerin, comparing the roster to the one he had during the Four Nations Faceoff.
