NEW YORK, NY — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has been suspended without pay for two games following a league investigation into a physical confrontation with a fan during Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Lions.
The NFL announced the suspension on Monday, citing Metcalf’s violation of league policy prohibiting players from entering the stands or engaging with fans during game day. According to the official statement, “players may not enter the stands or otherwise confront fans at any time on game day and…if a player makes unnecessary physical contact with a fan in any way that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct or presents crowd-control issues and/or risk of injury, he will be held accountable.”

Metcalf’s suspension will see him sidelined for the Steelers’ upcoming games: Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns and Week 18 against the Baltimore Ravens. He will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, January 5.
Under the terms of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Metcalf is permitted to appeal the suspension. If he chooses to do so, a prompt hearing will be conducted by the Commissioner or a designated representative.
This incident adds a significant challenge for the Steelers as they push toward the postseason, with Metcalf’s absence likely to impact the team’s offensive plans in the critical final weeks of the regular season.
