Puerto Rico Dominates St. Lucia 7-0 in Women’s International Friendly; Local Star Jailene DeJesus Scores

Jill Aguilera Records Four Goals as Puerto Rico Overwhelms St. Lucia at Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel

BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Women’s National Team delivered a commanding 7-0 victory over St. Lucia on December 1, 2025, at Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel, with local soccer star Jailene DeJesus from St. John’s University finding the back of the net in the dominant performance.

Jill Aguilera stole the show with four goals, while Danielle Marcano added two and Cristina Torres contributed one as Puerto Rico controlled every aspect of the match in front of their home fans.

The victory moves Puerto Rico to second place in Group A standings with 3 points and a +7 goal difference, positioning them strongly in the tournament behind Mexico’s dominant 14-0 opening victory.

DeJesus Shines for Puerto Rico

Jailene DeJesus, the St. John’s University standout and local hero, scored Puerto Rico’s third goal in the 18th minute with a clinical right-footed finish from the right side of the box. The unassisted goal showcased her individual quality and ability to create scoring opportunities in tight spaces.

DeJesus’ goal extended Puerto Rico’s lead to 3-0 and continued the relentless attacking pressure that defined the first half. Her performance highlighted the growing talent pool in Puerto Rico’s women’s national team program and demonstrated the impact of collegiate players representing their home nation.

The St. John’s star was substituted at halftime after a productive 45 minutes that saw her contribute to Puerto Rico’s attacking dominance. DeJesus completed 12 passes with 83.3% accuracy, registered 16 touches, and took two shots (both on target, both inside the box) during her 45-minute appearance.

St. John’s Coach Ian Stone Praises DeJesus

St. John’s Women’s Soccer Head Coach Ian Stone expressed his pride in Senior Midfielder DeJesus’ international call-up and performance, highlighting her impact both on and off the pitch.

“Jailene DeJesus is a special player,” Stone said. “She has been a bright spot on the team, and we wish her all the best on her national team call-up. We know she is bound to do great things, and we wish her all the success. This will help her player development immensely.”

Stone’s endorsement underscores DeJesus’ trajectory as one of the program’s standout talents and her potential to make a significant impact at the international level. The national team experience will provide valuable exposure and development opportunities as she finishes her collegiate career at St. John’s.

Aguilera’s Four-Goal Masterclass

Jill Aguilera delivered a performance for the ages, scoring four goals across both halves to lead Puerto Rico’s offensive onslaught.

Aguilera’s Goals:

  • 4th minute: Header from the center of the box, assisted by Danielle Marcano
  • 39th minute: Left-footed strike from the center of the box to the top left corner, assisted by Marcano on a fast break
  • 73rd minute: Left-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner (unassisted)
  • 78th minute: Right-footed finish from the center of the box to the high center of the goal, assisted by Estefanía González

Aguilera’s four-goal haul showcased her versatility as a finisher—scoring with both feet, her head, from distance, and in close quarters. Her movement off the ball and positioning in the box proved too much for St. Lucia’s defense to handle.

The forward played the full 90 minutes, registering 75 touches, completing 41 passes with 58.5% accuracy, delivering 10 crosses (50% accuracy), and creating three chances for teammates. Aguilera took 11 shots (6 on target), with 7 inside the box and 4 from distance. Her work rate and attacking threat never diminished throughout the match.

First-Half Dominance

Puerto Rico wasted no time asserting control, racing to a 4-0 halftime lead with clinical finishing and relentless pressure.

First-Half Goals:

  • 4′ – Jill Aguilera (1-0): Header assisted by Danielle Marcano
  • 12′ – Danielle Marcano (2-0): Left-footed shot to the top left corner, assisted by Kennedy García
  • 18′ – Jailene DeJesus (3-0): Right-footed finish from the right side of the box
  • 39′ – Jill Aguilera (4-0): Left-footed strike assisted by Marcano on a counter-attack

Puerto Rico dominated possession (68%), registered 19 shots on target, and won 11 corners in the opening 45 minutes. St. Lucia managed zero shots on target and struggled to establish any offensive rhythm against Puerto Rico’s high press.

Second-Half Surge

Puerto Rico continued their dominance after the break, adding three more goals to complete the rout.

Second-Half Goals:

  • 64′ – Cristina Torres (5-0): Left-footed finish from very close range, assisted by Jaydah Bedoya
  • 73′ – Jill Aguilera (6-0): Left-footed strike from outside the box (unassisted)
  • 78′ – Jill Aguilera (7-0): Right-footed finish assisted by Estefanía González

Head coach Nat González made several substitutions at halftime, including bringing on Cristina Torres, Estefanía González, and Jaydah Bedoya for Jailene DeJesus, Verónica García, and Kennedy García. The fresh legs maintained Puerto Rico’s intensity and attacking threat throughout the second half.
