Dominating performance at the TD Bank Gardens on Blank Friday
Boston, MA- After a strong performance in Raleigh, North Carolina, the New York Rangers headed up to Boston, Massachusetts, as they faced the Bruins at the TD Bank Gardens for Black Friday afternoon. It was a dominating performance from the start of the game to the end as the Rangers took down the Bruins by a final score of six to four.
Quick attack leads to a goal
The Rangers controlled the puck in their own zone to start a rush. While the Bruins did intercept it, Will Cuylle skated hard off the bench and stole the puck back. He attacked from the near side boards and quickly became a two-on-one as Artemi Panarin skated down the far side. With a quick pass by Cuylle and a hard shot from Panarin, the Rangers took the lead at 3:28 of the first period.
Hammered from the point
The Rangers continued to play well and dominated the possession of the puck. Panarin dumped the puck into the Bruins’ zone, and it rimmed around the boards to Vincent Trocheck on the far side. His attempted shot was deflected across the ice, off the near boards, and carrumed to Carson Soucy. The defenseman skated into the puck, took a hard shot, nailed the far corner, and in at 12:02 of the first period.
All Zibanejad, all on the power play
This was a pivotal period for the Rangers, as they had a five-on-three advantage. on the Bruins while they were on the power play. The first power play goal came from the faceoff at the far side circle. J.T. Miller won the draw to Trocheck, then passed it back to the far point toward Adam Fox. A quick pass to Panarin, then a hard pass to Mika Zibanejad down low, and he ripped it in at 14:22 of the second period.
Back on the power play and back on the scoresheet. Those same three players did it again. Fox, to Panarin, to Zibanejad for the fourth of the game, and Zibanejad’s second of the game. After the initial shot was missed, the Rangers got the puck back. Fox at the near point made the quick pass to Panarin, then back to Zibanejad down low on the far side, a quick shot, and in at 15:07 of the second period.
The Bruins fought back
Going into the third, the Rangers had to be aware of a possible fight back from the Bruins, as they ended the shutout of Igor Shesterkin. Casey Middlestadt tapped in the loose puck in the crease at 4:07, then Morgan Geekie deflected a hard shot from Henri Jokiharju past Shesterkin at 5:49 of the third period. Two quick goals from the Bruins thought they were back in this game, but they weren’t.
Empty Net and one more for safe measures.
The Rangers never gave the Bruins that third chance to cut their lead to one as they played a strong defensive game. Alexis Lafreniere went for the empty net and scored at 16:36, then, with the goalie back in the net for the Bruins, another setup for a shot came from Vincent Trocheck, with Vladislav Gavrikov in front to deflect that shot in at 17:02 of the third period.
It was all over, as the Rangers have won three straight in this short streak. Igor Shesterkin made 19 saves out of 21 shots on goal, had a strong game in net, stopping the Bruins who were without David Pastrnak and a few others due to injury. But the Rangers won’t care; they got the win, and are heading back to the Garden to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.
