Fell in the second half at Audi Field
Washington, DC- Fort Lauderdale United traveled to Washington, DC, as they faced the DC Power in a mid-week match-up at Audi Field. While their opening half was a strong performance, they faltered in the second half, dropping the full three points as the Power earned the victory by a final score of three goals to one.
Well-worked ball for the opener
DC Power attacking in the midfield as Gianna Gourley was inside the center circle. She saw Dasia Torbert make a run and sprung her into a breakaway with a wonderful pass. When Torbert got inside the area, she blasted one past Bella Hara in the 21st minute for the early lead.

DC was looking for a second goal, and they got it when Emily Colton had possession of the ball in midfield. She saw Torbert cutting inside the middle of the park, made the pass, and Torbert scored her second of the match in the 40th minute.
Fort Lauderdale pulls one back
Inside first half stoppage time, Fort Lauderdale United earned a corner along the near side. As Taylor Smith delivered the ball to the DC Area, Ella Simpson somehow got her head on the ball inside the scrum and redirected it inside the far post. FTL cut the deficit to one just before the halftime whistle blew.
“I’m just really blessed and grateful to have gotten my third goal this season. Taylor played an amazing ball in, and it was a fight in the box to score on that corner right before half,” said Ella Simpson
DC Power pulls the plug
A late goal in the second half as DC Power ended Fort Lauderdale’s chance to earn the equalizer. The ball came down the near side and crossed to Fitch at the top of the area. She hit it toward the net, but nailed the crossbar. The rebound came to Loza Geinore, and she put it in to end the match in the 30th minute.
“The best thing that we can do is respond, and really lucky for us, we have another game Saturday. No excuses anymore, it doesn’t matter if we have three games in eight days. We’ve got to show up Saturday and get the result,” said Head Coach Ali Rogers.
Fort Lauderdale United’s next match is back at Beyond Bancard Field in Davie, Florida, as they host the Tampa Bay Sun for another Florida Derby at 7:30 PM EDT. You can watch the match by Stream on NBC’s Peacock app or website.
