Only one goal put the Rangers in the loss column
New York, NY-The New York Rangers returned to Madison Square Garden as the only game on the schedule for Sunday night as they hosted the Washington Capitals. This was a back-to-back matchup over the weekend, but unfortunately, the Rangers lost to the Capitals by a final score of one to nothing.
One Goal was all the Caps needed
The Capitals entered the Rangers’ zone as Declan Chisholm rimmed the puck around the boards to Alexander Ovechkin at the near side. He saw Anthony Beauvillier skate toward the near post. Made the pass and Beauvillier deflected the puck over Quick’s shoulder at 13:47 of the second period.
Goaltending was fabulous
Take nothing away from both goaltenders, Jonathan Quick for the Rangers, and Charlie Lindgren of the Washington Capitals played a brilliant night of goaltending, while Quick did relent the goal, making 20 saves from 21 shots on goal, Lindgren made all 35 saves in his shutout win.
Matt Rempe got Tom Wilson
Matt Rempe has improved his game since this past offseason, and it’s translated to his game at the start of this season. It still won’t take his physical game away, as he delivered a hard-hitting, clean check on Tom Wilson, who got hit along the far boards.
Goals at home and on the road
At this point, it’s only been four games played in the new season. Two at home and two on the road. The Rangers have scored 10 goals and allowed one on the road. At home, they haven’t scored any, while allowing four (two were empty net goals). While it’s a slight issue, they have been playing well. They need to finish at home.
“Yeah, you know, I thought the team played extremely well and that’s what I said to the guys after the game, you know. For our coaching staff, we’re most concerned about how we play, how we win, and how we lose, and sometimes you can’t control whether the puck was in the net or not. But I thought from an effort standpoint, determination, our attitude, for me, this type of game is the kind of game that we’re trying to build, and you know, we had our looks, we had some great looks.
They got some key saves at key times, you know, give them credit, but I thought our guys played extremely well. If we continue to play with that. kind of an effort, and that kind of focus and attention to detail. I think we’re going to win more games than we lose, that’s for sure,” said Head Coach Mike Sullivan.
