ATHENS, Ga. — Fourth-ranked Georgia struggled to find offensive rhythm but relied on a powerful ground game to secure a 28-6 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday, extending their home winning streak to 33 games despite an uneven performance.
Overcoming Adversity
Head Coach Kirby Smart addressed the significant weather delay that interrupted the game, turning halftime into a nearly two-hour break:
“You can use that as an excuse, but the rain was there for both of us,” Smart said. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a delay that long. We strategically handled that well. We came out of the delay with some juice.”
Running Backs Lead the Charge
Chauncey Bowens, recording his first career touchdown, reflected on the moment with pure excitement:
“It is an honor. Something I have dreamed of since being recruited. It is a blessing to be able to come true,” Bowens said.
Bowens and Nate Frazier each scored two rushing touchdowns to power the Bulldogs’ ground attack. Bowens described the running back room’s dynamic: “We do everything. We got a little bit of power, speed, agility. Really hard working group, we play with a lot of fire.”

Quarterback’s Perspective
Quarterback Gunner Stockton highlighted the team’s resilience, particularly during their impressive 99-yard touchdown drive:
“It was awesome. Our whole O-line, receivers, everybody pushed the ball down the field, so it was awesome to see,” Stockton said.
Austin Peay’s Competitive Spirit
Despite the loss, Austin Peay’s head coach Jeff Faris saw positives in his team’s performance:
“We’ve got a special group in our locker room. Our guys know how to fight. We had a chance there to make it a one-score game in the fourth quarter in Athens, Georgia,” Faris said.
Defensive back Myles Wiley echoed this sentiment: “We’re so proud of how we played out there. We gave our all and we have this mantra: We will. And I think we will be proud of what we did out there.”
Defensive Highlights
Smart praised the defense’s performance, particularly in the red zone:
“There’s a lot of pride in that red area defense. It’s where points are made and games are won. I thought we did a great job of holding these guys,” Smart said.
Looking Ahead
Senior defensive back Daylen Everette, returning from limited playing time, emphasized the team’s consistent approach:
“We try to prepare for every game like a championship game. I do not think the plan is going to change anything, we are finally going into SEC play.”
Statistical Breakdown
Georgia finished with 421 total yards of offense, including 190 rushing yards. Stockton completed 26 of 34 passes for 227 yards, while Frazier led the rushing attack with 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Next Challenge
The Bulldogs will face No. 22 Tennessee next Saturday in Knoxville for their SEC opener, looking to continue their momentum and home winning streak.
Georgia has now won eight consecutive games against Tennessee and will look to extend that streak next Saturday in Knoxville.
