The Right Guard suffered an arm injury during practice preparing for the first game of the season
Florham Park, NJ- New York Jets right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, designated as one of the six captains by Head Coach Aaron Glenn, has now been sidelined with a devastating arm injury that was reported by multiple reporters at the Jets Atlantic Health Training Facility, and is getting a second opinion to see if it’s not too serious, but right now many fear it’s a season ending injury
What significance does that have for the Offensive Line?
If Vera-Tucker is done for the entire season, it means that you could see Max Mitchell move from Tackle to Guard, and it also means one of the two Guards on the practice squad will move up to the 53-man roster. Either Kohl Levao or an NFL International Player from Germany, Leander Wiegand, could get the call. But for right now, waiting to hear from Head Coach Aaron Glenn on the severity of Vera-Tucker’s injury
Week 1 Against the Steelers
This injury comes at a bad time, as many fans were hoping to see running backs Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis get big holes to plow through the front four of the Steelers’ defense. With Vera-Tucker out for a long period or the entire season, the running game may be impacted this season. Until we receive official word from Aaron Glenn, we will wait for the worst.
Possible shift on the Offensive Line
There is a possibility that we could have a shift on the offensive line. Joe Tippmann was drafted as a Center by former Jets General Manager Joe Douglas, but can also play Guard. This means former Green Bay Packers and Justin Fields teammate at Ohio State, Center Josh Myers, can take over all the snaps while Tippmann can move over to right guard for the season. But expect a move from a player from the practice squad to replace Vera-Tucker’s spot.
This is a huge blow to the offensive line, but the hope is that both Head Coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey are proactive and can find some more talented players to beef up the depth the Jets need to prepare for Week 1 and the rest of the 2025 season. This is a huge moment for both men, not to panic, and find ways to close up a big hole as fast as possible.
UPDATE:
From Adam Schefter of ESPN, sources informed him the Jets feared Alijah Vera-Tucker might have suffered a season ending torn tricep muscle, and he is seeking a second opinion to confirm the injury and to see if he needs surgery on it.
