NWSL Side takes down the Salvadorian club to take the top of Group B
Santa Tecla, SLV- This is the second group stage match for Gotham FC as they were looking to continue their title defense in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup. They would take on the El Salvadorian side, Alianza FC, away at the Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla. They put on a great performance as they took the lead in Group B with the final score of two goals to nil.
Gotham grabs the lead at the spot
No goals were scored in the first half, but in the second half, Gotham took the lead as they earned a penalty at the hour mark. The ball was inside the Alianza area, where Sofia Cook was underneath the ball at the top of the area. She was bumped into and taken down by Linda Guillen, as the referee blew her whistle and pointed to the spot. Geyse scores her penalty in the 62nd minute.
Second Goal in Stoppage Time
As the fourth official posted seven minutes of stoppage time, Gotham made sure to add one more goal to finish off their opponents in their second group stage match. They earned a corner along the near side of the pitch. Taking the ball was Sarah Schupansky, as she delivered a solid ball across the area, and leaping up with a header shot was Kayla Duran at the far side, scoring inside the back post.
Gotham’s next Women’s Champions Cup Match will be on the road to Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, as they take on Rise Academy on Tuesday, September 16th at 10 PM Eastern – 7 PM Pacific, available through streaming on Paramount+
