New York Red Bulls Land Costa Rican Standout Andy Rojas in Ambitious Move
HARRISON, N.J. -– The New York Red Bulls have made a decisive statement about their intentions for the future, securing the transfer of rising Costa Rican midfielder Andy Rojas from C.S. Herediano. The 19-year-old, widely regarded as one of Central America’s top young prospects, joins the Red Bulls on a contract through 2028, with an additional club option for 2029.
This deal quietly signals the Red Bulls’ ongoing commitment to building a roster balanced between experience and emerging international talent. While financial terms remain undisclosed, club sources emphasize that the move reflects both investment in the present and a belief in Rojas’s potential upside.
Who is Andy Rojas?
For those not already following the Costa Rican circuit or MLS NEXT Pro, Rojas is no stranger to competitive football. In Costa Rica, he became a fixture for C.S. Herediano across three seasons, netting 15 goals and six assists in 85 appearances—an impressive tally for a teenager in a league with significant physical demands. His contributions helped Herediano clinch the 2024-25 Primera Division title and the 2024-25 Costa Rican Super Cup. Notably, Rojas scored a crucial equalizer in the Super Cup Final last July, offering a glimpse of his big-game poise.
Since arriving stateside, Rojas has adapted quickly, featuring in 15 games with New York Red Bulls II this season. He scored twice and logged an assist, including a memorable game-winner against Atlanta United 2 in his first MLS NEXT Pro appearance. His full senior debut for the Red Bulls came this summer in the Leagues Cup against FC Juarez, where his energy and technical quality saw him start and play over an hour in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Head coach Sandro Schwarz echoed those sentiments, highlighting Rojas’s development since joining the organization and emphasizing the club’s philosophy of creating opportunities for young talent.

International Pedigree
Rojas’s rapid ascent is underscored by his international résumé: 13 senior caps for Costa Rica, with a goal and two assists in 305 minutes. He exploded onto the scene during a World Cup qualifier against Saint Kitts and Nevis, scoring just three minutes into his debut and breaking the record as the youngest Costa Rican to score in a qualifier (18 years, 184 days). He’s since become a regular call-up, most recently appearing in all four of Costa Rica’s matches during the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, along with previous representation at U-20 and U-23 levels.

The Red Bulls have just eight games remaining first up is Charlotte on the road 8/24/25 (pending Hurrican Erin doesn’t Cancel it), They return home on 8/30/25 to face-off with the Columbus Crew who want revenge for last season’s playoffs, the team then travels to Portland on 9/13/25, then go to Montreal on 9/20/25, then return home for the Hudson River Derby on 9/27/25, next up is rival Cincinnati FC and Matt Miazga on 10/4/25, the season ends officially on the road when they face the Crew again on 10/18/25.
So the break down is 4 home matches (10-2-2) and 4 road matches (1-8-4). Not ideal for the Red Bulls they will need to hope for an epic collapse by New York, Charlotte, and Chicago if they wanna continue their playoff streak to 16.
Rojas hasn’t done enough to be considered a difference maker for the first team and their transfer from Poland is still not in the United States and their is no word when or if he even will arrive in time to help the club.
