Multiple gunmen open fire inside a crowded Crown Heights venue as the NYPD launches a gang-related investigation
NEW YORK -– Three men were killed and eleven others wounded when multiple shooters opened fire inside a packed Brooklyn nightclub early Sunday morning, marking one of the deadliest shooting incidents in New York City this year.
The violence erupted at approximately 3:27 a.m. inside the Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, where NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said up to four gunmen fired dozens of rounds following a dispute among patrons.
Victims Range from 19 to 61 Years Old
The fatalities include a 19-year-old man who died at the scene, along with a 27-year-old and a 35-year-old who were pronounced dead after being transported to area hospitals. Eleven surviving victims—three women and eight men ranging in age from 19 to 61—were hospitalized with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
“What we know preliminarily is there was a dispute inside a crowded club that led to the shooting,” Commissioner Tisch said during a Sunday afternoon news conference. “We have multiple shooters involved in this shooting.”

Evidence Points to Gang Connection
Investigators recovered at least 42 shell casings from 9mm and .45-caliber weapons scattered throughout the nightclub, indicating the intensity of the gunfire exchange. A firearm was also recovered near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, though police are still determining its connection to the incident.
Commissioner Tisch indicated the shooting appears to be gang-related but declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made as detectives continue examining security footage and interviewing witnesses.
Chaotic Scene Greets First Responders
NYPD officers arrived within minutes of the initial 911 calls to find a chaotic scene with multiple gunshot victims inside the crowded venue. The nightclub was packed with patrons when the violence began, creating additional challenges for emergency responders and investigators.
The shooting represents a stark contrast to the city’s overall crime trends, occurring as the NYPD has recorded its lowest number of shootings for the first seven months of any year on record.
Crime Statistics Show Overall Decline
According to NYPD statistics through August 10, shooting victims have decreased nearly 22% compared to the same period last year, while shooting incidents have declined 20.5%. Commissioner Tisch characterized Sunday’s mass shooting as “an anomaly” in the context of these improving statistics.
“Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly, and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning,” Tisch said. “But we’re going to investigate it and get to the bottom of what went down.”
Public Assistance Requested
Mayor Eric Adams appealed for community cooperation in the investigation, emphasizing that any information could prove crucial in identifying the perpetrators.
“If you were inside the club, if you heard individuals talking about this shooting, if you witnessed someone fleeing the location, every piece of information would allow us to put the puzzle together to solve this crime,” Adams said.
The investigation continues as detectives work to piece together the sequence of events that led to one of Brooklyn’s deadliest nightclub shootings in recent memory. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD immediately.
