From his introductory press conference to the start of training camp, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has come in and brought discipline, a hard work ethic, and accountability to the team, and everyone has been enjoying it. For the first time in a very long time, the feeling of a real NFL practice is going around, and many in the media are seeing it right away.
When players are coming to the media tent and talking to the reporters, also watching the video streams on either the Jets website or on their YouTube page, the players are showing why they are feeling that the change is for the best, and a sense of a better direction for how they wanted to practice. You have seen Breece Hall, Alijah Vera Tucker, and others show their pleasure.
“I can see this thing turning around for sure. With the type of coach Glenn is, he praises physicality, even more with accountability, which is very important for a head coach to do. It’s something I haven’t seen much in my career,” said Vera Tucker.
“Practicing in the morning is better than practicing at 11 AM or 12 PM. It’s 90 degrees already, so that’s a lot nicer. I just like how practice is going, but how the whole operation during the day is being run. Coach Glenn has done an amazing job, not only being a player’s coach but making sure we get the right amount of work in to It’s been cool to see how he goes about his business and the standard he sets for everybody For me, it makes me want to come in every day to do my one of eleventh out on the field.” said Breece Hall.
What does that say about former Jets head coach Robert Salah? Unfortunately, it shows that he was trying to be more like a friend than a head coach. While it did start well, towards the back end, it all fell apart. Even bringing over Aaron Rodgers, he couldn’t handle that type of superstar player who was a bigger personality than the entire team was.
It goes to show you that someone who has a real sense of having a dedicated workload, but at the same time shows respect and gives great conversation to his players, works with them, and finds solutions to make the team better, is a great start to what has been missing for a very long time. While Glenn is working well with his players, he also wants them to know they can’t mess around and be undisciplined.
Just bringing in the NFL Officials so early into camp to end the penalty problem was a strong start to training camp. He knew he had to fix those problems to have a better season and to start on the right foot as he began his head coaching tenure in the NFL. But when it comes to the media, he’s been better with sharing his thoughts, but once again, he gets asked about his mentor in Bill Parcells.
While Glenn does thank him for helping him point in the right direction on how to start his coaching career, he wants to make sure that everyone knows that it’s all about Aaron Glenn. He wants them to know that he makes the decisions, not Parcells. We have seen former assistants or coordinators who have learned from a certain popular head coach fail once they leave the nest. More importantly, those former coordinators who have left the Bill Belichick mind machine. They have failed spectacularly.
Once again, this doesn’t mean there will be a change right away, and this season everything is fixed; it just means that there is clarity and a better direction for where this team is going. It has to go up, and the hope is that it will go up. If there is enough progress to see the positives come for the 2026 season, then Aaron Glenn has become the right man for this job. Right now, the details are being worked out. Everyone is on board, but can they make enough progress to be better? Wait and see.
