Another new day for the New York Jets at Training Camp as the team continues to improve on their play and get their schemes down to a tee with the playbook. Aaron Glenn continues to look for improvement from his team and is hoping they can continue to cut down on the undisciplined penalties that have plagued this team over the last several seasons.
JUSTIN FIELDS TOE IS GOOD
During their two-minute drills, Justin Fields looked sharp and strong as he was able to pull out several big throws to Wide Receiver Allen Lazard and Tight End Mason Taylor, but as always with Fields, his legs are a big asset as well, scrambling for a touchdown on a situational fourth and two.
MASON TAYLOR’S CHEMISTRY IS GROWING
He might not be the loudest player on the Jets during training camp, but what Mason Taylor is doing is showing the coaching staff that he is becoming dependable in the pass-catching game, and he’s already starting to develop some chemistry with Fields during the two-minute drills and in other offensive plays that are meant for him.
“Mason — he doesn’t talk a lot,” Fields said. “He does work a lot, though. From the moment he got here, he’s been working – [he has] his head down working. He doesn’t make really any mental mistakes, at least from what I’ve seen. He’s a great route runner, he’s smooth [and] has natural hands. He’s been great so far.”
DEFENSE RESPONDS AFTER MONDAY’S PRACTICE
While the Jets offense had a field day on Monday against the defense, it was the defense’s turn to return the favor. They came out to make sure they put a stamp on practice today to show their defensive coaches and to Aaron Glenn that they can learn from a poor day and make it up the next day. That made Glenn very excited and happy to see his defense come up huge.
Overall, Glenn was pleased with everyone at practice this Tuesday.
“Even though the defense had a really good day against our offense, you saw in that two-minute drill how the offense really picked it up,” HC Aaron Glenn said. “And they actually got down there and got the score. You want to see that. Again, it just goes back to everything that I talk about with the guys. Things are going to happen in this game that you’re not going to like, but how do you respond to that?”
“I want our guys to understand that we can always win the game no matter what the situation is,” Glenn said. “And that kind of proved the point — our offense not having a good day, but then in the two-minute drill they went it in and drove for the score.”
BRAELON ALLEN TAKES A DAY OFF
As a precaution, Glenn gave Braelon Allen the day off as he picked up some soreness in his knees. Tomorrow is an off day at training camp, so Allen will have two days off before he gets back out there for another session on Thursday.
The Jets are looking good in the eyes of Aaron Glenn, but as always, the proof is in the pudding when the regular season gets underway on Sunday Afternoon, September 7th, against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
