Today, on a random Wednesday in July, the NHL released game schedules league-wide.
New Jersey will start their season with a three-game road trip beginning in Raleigh, North Carolina, against the Carolina Hurricanes on October 9th. The Hurricanes have eliminated the Devils in each of the last two playoff series they have faced each other since 2022. The rest of the road trip will include games against the Tampa Bay Lightning (10/11) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (10/13).
The Devils will return to New Jersey for their home opener on October 16th against the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.
If you thought that was a tough start, then you’ll be pleased to know that the Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers (10/18) will be the Devils’ opponents just two days later. This will mark the return of former fan favorite Curtis Lazar to New Jersey after the center signed a one-year deal with the Oilers this summer. It should be a fun weekend in Newark!

Here are some other key dates to mark on your calendar.
- After not beating his former team last season, Sheldon Keefe gets another crack at Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs when New Jersey flies north of the border on October 21st.
- The Islanders come to town on November 10th in what could be the first time New Jersey sees 2025 1st-round pick Matthew Schaefer in a regular season game.
- The Devils open their slate on the road against the Flyers, but have two other home games this season
- November 22nd @ PHI
- November 29th vs PHI
- April 7th vs PHI
- The Nashville Predators come to town on January 29th, Erik Haula’s return to New Jersey
- The Devils will play the New York Rangers just three times this season
- March 7th vs NYR
- March 18th @ NYR
- March 31st @ NYR

The NHL season is set to begin on October 7th when Matthew Tkachuk and the reigning and defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers take on Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks down in Sunrise, Florida, for the Panthers’ home opener and banner ceremony. Puck drop is set for 5:00 p.m. on ESPN.
If you want a little laugh, here’s how the Devils’ social media team announced the team’s schedule. There is a surprise at the end.
