Chelsea’s Shocking Dominance on PSG Wins the FIFA Club World Cup

A sold out MetLife Stadium watched a match where many believed the recently crowned European Cup Champions in Paris Saint-Germain were going to create history and earn their fifth title in the 2024-25 Calendar year. But the shock and awe from Chelsea surprised many, and they came out as the champions of the upgraded FIFA Club World Cup with a three goals to nil victory.

In the 22nd minute, Chelsea opened the scoring as a long ball from the Blues’ side of the pitch was looped down the near side. Making the run and getting the ball was Malo Gusto, as he entered the area. He tried to find a bit of space to take the shot, but instead waited for help. Cole Palmer trailed the play as he got the pass from the top of the area, and his shot was placed perfectly inside the far post.

Seven minutes later, Palmer does it again with his brace. Levi Colwell passes the ball to Palmer and attacks all by himself down the near side. He cuts inside to the middle and inside the PSG area, rips a fantastic shot inside the far post, and Cole Palmer puts Chelsea ahead by two. Inside the first 30 minutes, Chelsea has come out of nowhere and is dominating the Parisians and their attempts at a fifth title inside the current calendar season.

In the 43rd minute, Chelsea continued their amazing start. This time, it was Cole Palmer who set up his teammate for the goal. Once again, down the near side, Palmer finds João Pedro with a beautiful ball that was laid off in front of him, then the Brazilian chips the ball over the head of PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the back of the net to make it three.

As PSG tried very hard to get a goal in this Club World Cup Final, they found themselves down a man due to VAR. In the 85th minute, referee Alireza Faghani was called in to look at the monitor and review his yellow card on João Neves. On review, he saw Neves reaching for the hair of Marc Cucurella, grabbed him, and pulled it. While Cucurella did initiate the contact, he got his response when the referee changed the card color to red.

All throughout the second half of this Club World Cup Final, Chelsea played strong defensively and had several strong saves from their goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez. He was excellent in stopping Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, and many other attacking runs by PSG. As the final whistle blew, Chelsea of the English Premier League celebrated on the pitch at MetLife Stadium with the Manhattan Skyline just several miles east of them, with the first new trophy of the Club World Cup.

But after the final whistle blew, there was a rush of anger and embarrassment as PSG players started pushing and shoving against the Chelsea players. Even PSG’s Spanish manager and former FC Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, lost his temper and shoved down a Chelsea player from behind. Seeing the replays, we would believe he will get slapped with a heavy fine and a suspension either during the new season of French Ligue 1 or a return to defending their title in the UEFA Champions League by FIFA.

But overall, this was an entertaining final, as this appetizer will only serve for next summer’s main course, when the FIFA World Cup comes, and we will see the 48 best nations that will qualify for the biggest football party the world has been waiting for once every four years.
