The New York Jets and Quarterback Justin Fields have signed a two year contract worth 40 Million dollars with $30 Million of it guaranteed. This move ensures that the Jets will have a bridge quarterback depending on whether they make a selection in this year’s or wait for next year’s draft which many have said the quarterback class will be a lot better.
With Fields coming to the Jets, he will be reunited with his teammates from Ohio State in Wide Receiver Garrett Wilson, and Tight End Jeremy Ruckertt. Last season Fields was with the Pittsburgh Steelers as he started the season going four and two before Russell Wilson got healthy and replaced him as the starting quarterback on Sunday Night Football in Week 7 of last season.
There were reports that Fields did want to stay in Pittsburgh, but he would only remain if he was going to be the starting quarterback. With that in play, the Jets went after him and signed him up. This could be a moment where Fields will possibly bridge toward a quarterback in the draft, or if the Jets can fix him, then could be the team’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
For now, this is a good signing and a better decision than going after Kirk Cousins or Marcus Mariota. They get a younger player and a mobile quarterback who can keep plays alive under center.
