The New York Rangers are on their second game of a four game road trip as they head over to Rodgers Arena in downtown Vancouver, British Colombia against the Canucks. This will be a tough game for the Rangers as they will play against a good team coached by Rick Tocchett who has them playing strong. There is some good news that came to the Rangers as Filip Chytil is feeling much better, and he will rejoin the team when they head over to the Calgary Flames for Thursday night.
In the first period, the Rangers did it again, allowing their opponents to score first in the opening minute of the first period. The puck was along the far boards, and many Rangers concentrated too much on that side. Elias Pettersson passed it to the point to Filip Hronek, then a cross ice pass to Quinn Hughes at the near boards. Hughes cuts across the middle of the ice, gets to the slot, and backhands it past Shesterkin. Head Coach Peter Laviolette was upset that his side allowed an early goal again in the opening period at thirty four seconds. But they tied up the game. After winning the faceoff in the Canucks zone, Adam Fox got the puck and passed it to K’Andre Miller at the far point, wristed a shot toward the net, then out of nowhere, Mika Zibanejad deflected the shot past Silovs at 2:31.
Then the Rangers took the lead on a gorgeous play that started in their zone. Adam Fox clears the puck out of the zone, with a slight touch by Kappo Kakko, deflects it enough to allow Will Cuylle to glide into it, and he snaps it through the pads of Silovs for the two to one lead at 14:38. The Canucks tied up the game on a quick two on two. Carson Soucy rims the puck along the far boards, Kiefer Sherwood gets the puck, passes it to Pettersson attacks down the middle of the ice, sacued a nice pass back to Sherwood, and beats Shesterkin short side at 17:39.
In the Second period, the Rangers regained the lead. Johnny Broadzinzki rushed up the ice to create a scoring chance. He made a nice pass to Cuylle who then passed the puck to Kappo Kakko, but the puck was deflected off a Canucks skate deadening it and allowing Kakko to take a quick wrist shot to beat Sliovs at 8:45. The Canucks came back again to tie it at three. Dakota Joshua brought the puck inside the Rangers Zone and passed it to Conor Garland who used two Rangers and Joshua as a screen to block Shesterkin with his wrist shot at 13:02.
In the third period, the Rangers intercepted the puck and attacked the Canucks Zone. Zibanejad took the puck from Kreider and skated toward the far boards, made a hard pass to Reilly Smith, then found Kreider gliding in and snapped it in past Silovs at the far post at 10:43. The Rangers held off the Canucks for the rest of the third period to get a big four to three win and have won two straight road games on this trip. Igor Shesterkin gets the win by making twenty one saves out of twenty four shots. This game looked almost as similar to the one they played against the Canucks last year at Rodgers Arena but it went to overtime for the win. Now the Rangers will travel to Alberta province to face the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
