Washington, D.C. (07/21/2023) – The club announced today that Washington Spirit midfielder Tori Huster has been activated from the season-ending injury (SEI) list. She will travel with the team to North Carolina this weekend. Huster, who has been sidelined with a lower leg injury since late in the 2021 season, exercised her free agency rights this past offseason and signed a new one-year contract with the Spirit.
With the Spirit, Huster has been the club’s most experienced and consistent player, serving as an important part of the club’s 2021 championship team after seeing almost 13,000 minutes of action across 158 regular season matches. Often referred to as “OG23”, Huster is one of just five original NWSL players to have been with the same club since the league’s inception. Before beginning her pro career, Huster played college soccer at Florida State under current Spirit President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian from 2008 to 2011. She will provide depth for the club going into the final stretch of the season. She will most likely be a substitute player in the remaining matches that she dresses for. The hope is she will be able to earn a starting XI spot next season through training camp and preseason matches.
Huster, who is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, was drafted by the Spirit with the club’s second pick in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft. The midfielder’s move to the newly formed NWSL came after spending her first professional season with Women’s Premier Soccer League Elite’s Western New York Flash and the Australian W-League’s Newcastle Jets.
