TORONTO, Canada – The Premier Hockey Federation All-Star Weekend in Toronto was a resounding success, bringing together the league’s top talent for a celebration of women’s hockey that exceeded expectations both on and off the ice.
The weekend featured youth clinics for local players, a ceremony at the Hockey Hall of Fame—where Toronto Six coach Geraldine Heaney’s legacy is immortalized—and events hosted by Saroya Tinker for Black Girl Hockey Club. Young players from the club had the opportunity to watch their role models compete from rinkside, creating priceless memories.
“Every player you speak to about their experience can’t hide the joy in their eyes,” organizers noted. The event was well-attended and broadcast on ESPN2, providing a major platform for the league’s stars.
Tournament Results
Game 1: Team USA vs. Team Canada
Boston Pride goaltender Corinne Schroeder and Connecticut Whale netminder Abbie Ives battled through 14 scoreless minutes before Toronto Six rookie sensation Brittany Howard won it for Team Canada in a shootout.
Game 2: Team Canada vs. Team World
Loren Gabel (Boston Pride) opened scoring for Team Canada off a Brittany Howard assist. Toronto Six forward Leah Lum tied it late with a spectacular individual effort, assisted by Metropolitan Riveters defenseman Ebba Berglund. Minnesota Whitecaps forward Denisa Krizova scored the game-winner for Team World with just over a minute remaining, securing a 2-1 victory.
Game 3: Team USA vs. Team World
Metropolitan Riveters forward Fanni Garat-Gasparics stole the show, recording her first career hat trick to put Hungary on the map in women’s hockey. Her three goals, including an unassisted tally and two assisted by Leah Lum, powered Team World to a 3-2 victory. Riveters goaltender Evelina Makinen was outstanding in net. Taylor Girard (Connecticut Whale) and Jillian Dempsey (Boston Pride) scored for Team USA.

Finals: Team Canada vs. Team World
Garat-Gasparics opened scoring for Team World with her fourth goal of the weekend, assisted by Montreal Force forward Taylor Baker. Brittany Howard tied it for Canada off a Loren Gabel assist. Metropolitan Riveters forward Ana Kilponen gave Team World the lead again, assisted by Boston Pride forward Teresa Vanisova.
But Team Canada rallied. Loren Gabel tied it with assists from Howard and Toronto Six defenseman Kati Tabin. Montreal Force forward Jade Downie-Landry scored the game-winner unassisted, giving Team Canada a 3-2 victory.
Team World played three consecutive games without a break, showcasing remarkable endurance and skill throughout the tournament.
The success of the 2023 All-Star Weekend has set a high bar for future events, with players and fans alike eagerly anticipating next year’s celebration.
