First-year forward delivered the game-winning goal in Sacred Heart’s comeback victory over No. 15/13 Cornell.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Sacred Heart men’s ice hockey first-year forward Ethan Semeniuk has been named Atlantic Hockey America Rookie of the Week following a standout performance against nationally ranked Cornell over the weekend.
Semeniuk played a key role in the Pioneers’ split against the No. 15/13 Big Red, recording points in both games. After opening the weekend with an assist in Friday’s 5-2 loss, the Fort St. John, British Columbia, native delivered the biggest moment of the series Saturday, scoring his first collegiate goal to secure a 3-2 comeback victory.
With just 7:27 remaining in the third period, Landon Hanson disrupted a Cornell possession behind the Big Red’s net, poking the puck away from a defender. Semeniuk was in the right position to capitalize, getting his stick on the puck and tipping it past the goaltender for the game-winning goal.
The victory marked Sacred Heart’s second win over a nationally ranked opponent this season. The Pioneers previously defeated No. 17 Penn State on Oct. 10, with Semeniuk also registering a point in that contest.

Through the opening portion of his collegiate career, Semeniuk has totaled one goal and two assists for three points, establishing himself as an important contributor in Sacred Heart’s lineup.
The Pioneers will look to carry that momentum into Atlantic Hockey America play this weekend when they host Canisius for a two-game series as part of Sacred Heart’s Homecoming festivities.
The series opens Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m., with the rematch scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at home in Fairfield, Connecticut.
