EAGAN, Minn. — The undefeated Minnesota Vikings (4-0) executed a strategic roster expansion Wednesday, signing Super Bowl LVI champion wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie receiver Jeshaun Jones to the practice squad ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints (1-3).
In a corresponding set of transactions, Minnesota designated third-year center Michael Jurgens and second-year tight end Ben Yurosek to return from Injured Reserve, initiating their 21-day practice windows after both players missed the first four games of the 2026 regular season.
The O’Connell Connection and Championship Pedigree
The acquisition of Beckham, 33, injects veteran depth and proven championship experience into the Vikings’ offensive ecosystem. The move reunites Beckham with Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips, both of whom orchestrated the Los Angeles Rams’ offense during their Super Bowl LVI championship run.
Beckham signed with the Rams in November 2021, becoming a critical catalyst during their postseason surge. Throughout that playoff run, he recorded 21 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns, including a 17-yard touchdown reception to open the scoring in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals. Beckham tallied 52 yards on two catches in that contest before suffering a torn ACL just before halftime.
Over a 10-year NFL career that includes stints with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens, and a brief preseason return to the Giants in 2024, Beckham has accumulated elite career metrics. In 122 career regular-season games, he has secured 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns.
Louisiana Roots and the Jefferson Synergy
The signing carries significant geographic and personal symmetry. Beckham is a native of New Orleans, the site of the Vikings’ upcoming Week 5 game, and established his national profile at LSU from 2011 to 2013. During his tenure in Baton Rouge, Beckham played alongside quarterback Jordan Jefferson, the older brother of current Vikings consensus All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
The existing relationship between Beckham and Justin Jefferson adds an established cultural chemistry to the Minnesota receiver room. Beckham enters a structural environment where he can master the nuances of O’Connell’s playbook from the practice squad while providing a veteran presence behind Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
Roster Depths and Injury Activations
Complementing the Beckham signing, the Vikings re-signed wideout Jeshaun Jones to the practice squad. Jones, an undrafted free agent who showed flashes during training camp, made his 2026 NFL regular-season debut during Minnesota’s Week 4 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
The offensive line and tight end rooms also received reinforcement with the return of Jurgens and Yurosek to the practice field. Jurgens provides critical interior line depth behind starting center Garrett Bradbury, while Yurosek’s return fortifies the blocking and streaming tight end packages as T.J. Hockenson continues his progression.
