New York, NY—Gotham FC is preparing to leave Sports Illustrated Stadium and relocate to Etihad Park in Queens, joining MLS rivals New York City FC at the state‑of‑the‑art venue beginning in 2028, Bad Dawg Media has learned.
Multiple sources directly involved in the negotiations—all of whom requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the discussions—confirmed the impending move and granted permission for publication late Thursday night. The club is expected to make the announcement public in the coming days.
The decision marks one of the most significant venue shifts in NWSL history and positions Gotham FC inside one of the most ambitious soccer developments in the country. Etihad Park, currently under construction, is designed to serve as a multi‑club, multi‑event complex with shared infrastructure and independent branding for each tenant.
For Gotham FC, the move represents a strategic alignment with the league’s broader push toward modern, soccer‑specific facilities. It also places the club in the heart of Queens—a borough with one of the densest and most diverse soccer fan bases in the United States.
The reporting process was not simple. Bad Dawg Media confirmed the details nearly a year ago, but withheld publication out of respect for the sources who provided the information. In an industry where trust determines access, timing, and accuracy, the decision to wait was deliberate.
The club has not commented publicly, but internal discussions have accelerated in recent weeks as construction benchmarks at Etihad Park continue to be met. The stadium is expected to host NYCFC beginning in 2027, with Gotham FC joining one year later.
