NEW YORK — New York City FC announced Friday that defender Mitja Ilenič has returned to the club following a loan spell with Polish side Raków Częstochowa.
Ilenič, 21, joined Raków in January and made six appearances across three competitions. He also started in the club’s 2–1 win over Avia Świdnik in the STS Polish Cup quarterfinals, helping Raków advance to the semifinals.
“We are excited to welcome Mitja back,” sporting director Todd Dunivant said. “The additional experience gained during his loan will be valuable, in addition to the depth he provides to our backline. We look forward to having Mitja back with the Club.”
Before departing on loan, Ilenič made 75 appearances for NYCFC across three seasons, including 45 starts, and recorded three goals and five assists in all competitions for the Boys in Blue.
