NEW YORK — New York City FC confirmed Wednesday that defender Strahinja Tanasijević has left the club, ending a tenure that saw the Serbian center back make 43 appearances across all competitions since arriving ahead of the 2024 season.
Tanasijević, 27, joined NYCFC from FK Čukarički and became a steady rotational option during two transitional years for the club’s back line. He featured in MLS, Leagues Cup, and U.S. Open Cup play, often deployed for his physical presence and aerial reliability.
Sporting director Todd Dunivant said the decision allows both sides to move forward cleanly.
“We would like to thank Tana for the commitment and professionalism shown throughout his time with the Club,” Dunivant said. “This move provides an opportunity for Tana to pursue the next step in his career while also giving the Club additional roster flexibility. We wish Tana and his family all the best moving forward.”
The departure opens an international roster slot as NYCFC prepares for the summer window and continues reshaping a defensive unit that has undergone significant turnover since 2023.
The club said it “thanks Strahinja for his contributions” as he begins the next phase of his career.
