On an early Monday Morning at LaGuardia Airport, an Air Canada Express jet was landing on the shortest runway at the airport when it collided with a ground vehicle from a plane-spotting vehicle that tracks airliners landing at the airport. This incident caused LaGuardia to close down. The plane was originating from Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As it was arriving, the speed of the plane was at 24 MPH when it struck the vehicle.
The FDNY stated that they were dispatched to LaGuardia after being informed that a plane and a vehicle were on the runway and responded to the call. They didn’t give any additional information. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a pause to all planes at the airport until 12:30 AM Eastern Time. The FAA also issued a notice stating that the pause at LaGuardia was due to an emergency: planes were diverted to other airports or told to turn around and return to their departure airports. The FAA also mentioned LaGuardia could remain closed until 1 PM Eastern Time
