Gio Reyna makes the roster

Without a doubt, Gio Reyna is one of the most talented players the U.S. Men’s National Team has. But recent history tells you that there are some issues since the 2022 World Cup. While playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Bundesliga, he hasn’t had many minutes or matches for the club, but Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino saw what he was able to do in the final international window of 2025 in November, and he wants him to be here for these two friendly matches.

” I think Gio was fantastic in November with us. I think everyone praised him in his game against Paraguay, and then in the way that he was involved. Uncommitted with the team and with the national team, I was really happy with, you know, the aspect and the fact of that. He was involved in the last decision for the last roster for the World Cup. I think it’s good to see players that maybe are not playing too much, like in that case about Gio, but that is a very talented player, and we know how he can add to the national team. It’s to see if he’s affected by that. He is capable of performing, uh, with us again. I think we really know that he’s a very special, talented and very special player. And I think to give the possibility, even if it’s not playing too much in his… this club can be very useful for us. That is our mindset in the way that we decided to bring Gio to this camp.”

Tyler Adam and Haji Wright are injured

Currently, Midfielder Tyler Adams of Bournemouth and Striker Haji Wright of Coventry City FC are injured for their clubs, so they weren’t called up for this international window. But their length of being injured is not very long. It feels like both men are still a part of Pochettino’s plans for the World Cup this summer, and he knows very well what they can do when they are on the International Stage.

“In the case of Wright and Tyler, they are not available to be selected because both are injured. I think that is always difficult when the player is injured, and you cannot select. Or, you cannot have the possibility to select if you want to select no. When the players are injured, like Serginho Dest, he is also not selected. Cannot be selected because we cannot think of him to select, because I think he’s injured. As you know, it’s tough, it’s difficult because it’s a great opportunity or the last opportunity to see the player you know. Before making the decision that can always be an influence, no positive or negative.

But it’s important that he can recover. As soon as possible, perform, and then, you know, to have the possibility to be selected for the last roster. Um, well, but Christian, I think, always is. I never measure the performance of the teams of the clubs. We always see the player, and Christian is playing. And of course, there is no scoring. But for me, it’s not only about scoring goals. For me, I am happy with him in the way that he is performing and his commitment to the team. And in the time that he’s playing. And of course, I think it’s a great opportunity for him to join us and of course to… To perform with us and to try to help him, you know, to arrive in the best condition for, we, you know, in a good position to be selected for the, for also for the, for the last roster.”

Westin McKennie is back

After not being on the November 2025 roster window, Weston McKennie is back for this international window. He needed the time away from the National Team because Juventus hired a new head coach, Luciano Spalletti, and McKennie wanted to remain in Italy to learn everything Spalletti wanted from him. That is an advantage toward McKennie, as his value with Pochettino and the National Team is higher and better. Without a doubt, McKennie is a very important player and is versatile on the pitch when they have the ball on the run or during set pieces.

“Yes, it’s true that the Juventus is Western McKinney plus 10. I’m so happy for that because that is that means that he is an important player for Juventus. Another thing that I celebrate is that he can play in every single place. As his coach said, he can be the best striker, the best number 10, the number 7, the number 2, or the number 4. He can play fullback, can play mid… I think he is playing in different positions, and of course, it’s good for him, it’s good for us. It’s good to have a player who can play in different positions. And you know, to give the balance, sometimes the team that… in different positions that you need, you say, If I see him in different positions, which position I think is important. In the moment that we are going to give. And to find the balance, I think it’s important to see how he can provide the balance if we want him. And of course, that is good to have this capacity, the capacity from the player to adapt in different positions.”

Tanner Tessman’s most important technique

With Tanner Tessman currently playing out of position for Olympique Lyonnais, he’s still thriving at the club during their French Ligue 1 season. While he is a dangerous midfielder, being on the backline has been a questionable position for him to play in. But Pochettino isn’t worried about this. He knows what Tessman can do when he puts on the National Team kit and battles for the country. He feels he can throw him out on the pitch, and he will use his most important technique when the opening whistle blows.

“Tessman is a very, very good. player because he has one very important thing. Brains. He understands. Soccer, if you understand. He understood. In every single position that is in the way of how he needs to perform and to behave. And it’s not new for me. I think he has the profile to play in different positions. on the pitch. He’s another very good player, and he’s playing a lot in Lyon, and he’s doing well. And I think, like I was talking about Weston, he’s another player that… I really… You know, the coaching staff, the coaches, we really appreciate. That’s the profile of a player.”

Two strong opponents are lined up for the U.S. Men’s National Team, and both matches will be in Atlanta. It should be a great week of international soccer, and hopefully, a strong performance will come along when we get to this coming June.
