UConn didn’t just show up at Mohegan Sun Arena — they took over the building. The pregame energy was unmistakable: a sea of blue, a roar that never dipped, and a Huskies squad bouncing through warmups like a team already locked in for March. Georgetown, meanwhile, looked like a group feeling the moment close in around them. And once the ball went up, the Huskies didn’t just control the game — they seized it by the throat and never let go.
Huskies Own the Court and the Quarter
Georgetown opened with a quick 4–0 burst, but UConn responded with a 10–0 counterpunch that forced an early timeout and set the tone for the rest of the night. The Huskies surged to a 16–5 lead, shooting a blistering 65% in the first quarter while holding the Hoyas to 28%.
Azzi Fudd’s three made it 22–5, and UConn’s balanced scoring kept the pressure on. Sarah Strong delivered a thunderous block that ignited a fast break and punctuated it with a roar — “Get out of my house!” — the kind of emotional fire that defines competitors built for March.
UConn tightened the jar early and never loosened it. Heckel’s and‑one made it 24–8, and even a friendly Hoya roll at the buzzer couldn’t hide the reality: UConn dominated the opening quarter and wasn’t close to done.
Georgetown coach Darnell Haney’s signature “🦎 Hoya effect” — tightening the jar each quarter — was flipped on its head. UConn sealed the jar shut from the opening tip.
Huskies Dominance in Full Effect
The second quarter was a defensive clinic. UConn suffocated Georgetown into turnover after turnover, 12 by the five‑minute mark — and converted those mistakes into 18 points.
Ziebell splashed a deep three to make it 34–12. Strong ripped the ball from Scott and turned it into free throws. Quinonez drilled a three-pointer to push the lead to 45–15. Strong swatted another shot. Serah Williams buried a mid‑range jumper. The avalanche kept coming.
Haney praised his seniors, especially Brianna Scott, for their heart and leadership, but even he knew the air was draining fast. UConn’s pressure was suffocating, their pace overwhelming, and their execution ruthless.
By halftime, the Huskies led 47–18, and it felt even worse.
Halftime Message: No Mercy
Geno Auriemma’s halftime message practically wrote itself: great first half, but finish the job. Seal the jar. Don’t let them breathe. Play UConn basketball.
After the game, Geno said, “We came out and got a great start. Everybody who played contributed something.” That was an understatement — UConn’s depth was a weapon all night.
Serah Williams, who set the tone early, reflected on her growth: “I’ve been working a lot… every day in practice, every game, just trying to be my best.” Her teammates felt her impact, too. Sarah Strong said, “When Sarah started the game like she did today… It gets everyone going.”

The third quarter turned physical. Georgetown’s Chetanna Nweke went down hard and needed help off the court. A questionable foul on Strong left the entire arena confused. Then came a football‑style ankle tackle on Strong that somehow didn’t draw an immediate whistle.
But UConn didn’t flinch.
Williams broke the scoring drought at 6:27. Shade got hacked with no call. Strong stole the ball and got hammered again. The crowd was furious, but the Huskies stayed locked in.
Ziebell hit two free throws. Strong scored off a rebound. Ziebell finished a breakaway. Strong stole another pass and scored again. Shade splashed a corner three. The lead ballooned to 69–22.
Live stats went down. UConn didn’t.
Fourth Quarter: Goodnight, Hoyas
Up 47 entering the fourth, UConn emptied the bench — but the pressure didn’t stop. Heckel hit free throws. The defense forced turnovers. Shade drilled another three. The crowd chanted “Scoreboard!” as the Hoyas tried to salvage pride.
Geno’s bench players showed they could start anywhere in the country. The chemistry was obvious. The joy was real. The dominance was absolute.
The Hoyas hit a few late threes, celebrated them like game‑winners, and UConn politely escorted them to an 84–39 final.
The jar wasn’t just tightened — it was welded shut.
Final Score: UConn 84, Georgetown 39
The Huskies advance with authority. The Hoyas head home with a dish of humble pie. And the rest of the Big East? They’ve been warned.
You may call yourself a Dawg, but UConn showed tonight that the title is earned, not claimed.
