Julien Hall’s header gets the victory
It was opening day at Sports Illustrated Stadium as the Michael Bradley era finally opened the home portion of the schedule. They took on the New England Revolution, who were recovering from a horrible start away at Nashville SC. It was a tightly played contest between the two teams until that one moment of excellence happened that put the club ahead, and after the full 90 minutes were up, it would be a big win for the Red Bulls as they took the full three points as the final score was a goal to nil.
Game Recap: Julian Hall does it again
Red Bull New York earned a corner along the near side. Emil Forsberg walked over and took it short to Matthew Dos Santos. He crossed it hard inside the area, running into a space where Adri Mehmeti was putting his head down to deflect the ball in the air, and continued to float towards Julian Hall. He used his head to power the ball down on the turf, and it bounced toward the inside of the near post, beating Matt Turner for his third of the season in the 53rd minute.
The rest of thematch, you saw the Red Bulls attacking every time they had possession. While the Revolution’s backline did tighten up to prevent them from scoring multiple goals, the attacking runs were a thing of beauty. Relentless and flowing well every time they had the ball. While Matt Turner was doing a good job of making some strong saves, and the backline was disrupting the shot selections, you could see the frustration brewing from the Revs as they were forced to grab, clutch, and throw down the Red Bulls players
The moment you thought the Revolution was going to score and equalize the match, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty was at the right place at the right time. When Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath didn’t move toward his near post, Marshall-Rutty leapt up in the air and headed the ball over the crossbar to prevent an equalizer in the match. A big moment from your left fullback helping out his goalkeeper, who wasn’t able to make the save, and helped keep the clean sheet in the 68th minute. Michael Bradley earned his second consecutive win and his first at home as the Head Coach of Red Bull New York. The club earned its first clean sheet of the season.
Hall and Mehmeti are a fabulous combination
You could already see what Julian Hall and Adri Mehmeti are doing on the pitch. The chemistry between the two has been fabulous, and they already have that special radar where one another knows where they are positioned inside the area. Two straight matches, they worked well, scoring goals as Mehmeti sets them up, and Hall puts them in. Regardless of their young age, these two are working very well with each other, and the hope is that they continue this magic throughout the entire season.
“They have football, and they have personality. And so you know, as we move through preseason and as we continue to, you know, push our group and start to figure out, um, the best way to put it all together at the beginning of the season, it was. It was more and more clear every day that both of these guys needed to be on the field. And so they are really talented young players. They both have really good mentalities.
They come every day ready to train, ready to work, ready to push themselves. And so, yeah, we’re really happy with the. With the progress that they’re making, we’re really happy for them, that now, as they’ve gotten opportunities, they’ve shown how good they are. And so we’re gonna keep pushing them. We understand that.
With any young player, with any player in… In general, not every weekend is going to be perfect, not every game is going to be their best. But we’re going to continue to find the right ways to help these guys and make sure they continue to take the next step,” said Michael Bradley
The next match for Red Bull New York is back at Sports Illustrated Stadium as they host CF Montreal on Sunday, March 8th, at 4:30 PM. Head over to the stadium or watch it streaming on your Apple TV app or website.
