The Lunar Owls are facing the Hive toward the back end of the regular season before the playoffs begin, as they wanted to finish their regular season on a flourish. All game long, the Owls were relentless, attacking the basket and abusing the three-point line every chance they had to make sure they got toward the end strong. After all four quarters were done, it would be the Lunar Owls that finished the game on top as they defeated the Hive by the final score of 84-71.
Marina Mabrey led all scorers with 33 points and 6 for 17 at the three-point line. while Aziaha James led the Hive with 23 points. Monique Billings led all bench players with 16 points in this matchup.
First Half: Lunar Owls had an 11-2 run to start and never let up
It was a big first half for the Owls as they came out of the gate running and never relented. Marina Mabrey had two three-pointers in successive shots from long distance to start the domination. Skyler Diggins created a funky layup from the right side of the backboard as she contorted her body to take the two points. Even though Aziaha James was able to tie the game at 27 with a three-pointer after missing the original shot, the Owls went back ahead right away with Rebecca Allen draining a three-pointer. At the end of the first quarter, Allen looked like she might have beaten the buzzer for an amazing shot, but the replay showed she shot it well after the backboard lit up.
Second Half: Mabrey takes it herself and keeps the lead
It was all Lunar Owls in the entire second half as they never relinquished the lead. Spectacular plays from Mabrey as she continued to hit the three-pointers and well in transition, she flung the ball with her right hand, and it hit the backboard and in with one fluid motion. She hit another three-pointer towards the end of the third quarter to rack up the score. The Owls reached 84 points to end the game when Skyler Diggins nailed the three-pointer to call the game.
