Phantom BC is Brooklyn-bound. With a suffocating 84-66 victory over Hive BC on Sunday night, Phantom (10-3) secured a top playoff seed and a trip to the Unrivaled Semifinals. Fueled by a combined 48 points from Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Plum, Phantom unleashed a blistering 16-0 third-quarter run that turned a tight contest into a statement win.
Extending their win streak to six—the second-longest in league history—Phantom improved to 10-3, while Hive BC dropped to 4-9.
The Turning Point: Boston’s Takeover
While Hive rookie Aziaha James kept the game competitive in the first half with a career-high performance, the third quarter belonged to Aliyah Boston. With the game in the balance, Boston erupted for 16 points in the period, single-handedly outscoring the Hive for large stretches.
Starting with a midrange jumper at the 7:28 mark, Boston became unstoppable, scoring on four consecutive possessions. Her aggression ignited a decisive 16-0 run over three minutes that blew the game open. The Hive offense crumbled under the pressure, managing just two shot attempts and committing three turnovers during the blitz. By the time the dust settled, Phantom held a commanding 15-point lead that they would never relinquish.
“I think the first half I was just super passive, so I knew coming out in the third that I had to just be a little bit more confident in my game,” Boston said. “That started with taking the midrange jumpers. Once I saw it go through, I was like, okay, we got it now.”
Dynamic Duo: Plum & Boston
Boston finished with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds, marking the highest single-game scoring performance by a forward this season. Her partner in the backcourt, Kelsey Plum, was equally lethal, adding 23 points and six assists.
Plum set the tone early, sparking a 12-2 first-quarter run that erased an early deficit. The chemistry between the two stars was evident throughout the night, a fact highlighted by head coach Roneeka Hodges.
“They both have been awesome from the start until now,” Hodges said. “You see the connection that they have and the chemistry. It’s not by accident.”
Bright Spot for the Hive
Despite the loss, Hive BC found a future star in Aziaha James. Called up from the player development pool, James poured in a career-high 22 points off the bench—the most by a reserve in club history. She shot efficiently from the wing (1.22 points per shot) and connected on 4-of-6 from deep, providing a spark that kept the Hive within striking distance at halftime (46-43).
“This has been a great experience,” James said. “I’m so thankful to be in the circle—it feels so good to be able to be here and live up to the moment.”
Closing the Door
Tiffany Hayes ensured there would be no late drama. The veteran guard scored nine of Phantom’s final 11 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Her driving layup in the final minutes served as the exclamation point, sending the Miami crowd into a frenzy as Phantom celebrated their semifinal berth.
